Registered Nurse, Behavioral Health Sign on Bonus Available Job Summary

The Registered Nurse at North Mississippi Health Services Systems is responsible for providing safe, quality patient care using the nursing process, maintaining effective communication with the multidisciplinary team, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements. The role requires leadership skills in prioritizing, delegating, and evaluating work assignments, as well as effective problem‑solving abilities to respond to changing patient needs.

Responsibilities
  • Use the nursing process to provide safe, quality patient care and document accordingly.
  • Work to ensure compliance with all NMHS policies and requirements as directed by the Nurse Manager and Educator.
  • Provide patient/family education and act as a resource for existing staff and new employees.
  • Participate in the Preceptor class to ensure proper training of new employees.
  • Maintain communication with multidisciplinary team members to provide holistic care to the patient.
  • Attend daily huddles on each unit to ensure proper assignments and identify team members for the shift.
  • Project a caring, friendly, and helpful image to patients and other customers.
  • Utilize the patient’s communication board (white board) to identify name, date, goals, other staff and procedures or tests for the day to keep patients and families informed.
  • Comply with NMHS behavioral standards.
  • Maintain competency by staying informed of changing trends in nursing practice.
  • Attend annual review and unit specifics within the department.
  • Perform required continuing education hours online and in classroom.
  • Comply with regulatory and accrediting agency requirements.
  • Be licensed by the board of Nursing for the state.
Qualifications
  • Associate's Degree – Registered Nurse (Required)
  • Completion of RN Orientation and approved unit‑specific checklist requirements (Required)
  • State licensure as a Registered Nurse (or Compact State licensure)
  • CPR certification
  • ACLS certification
  • PALS certification
  • NIH Stroke Scale certification
  • Maintain department requirements for continuing education and any specific unit requirements to provide age‑specific care
  • Effective communication and teaching skills
  • General knowledge of various regulatory and accrediting standards
  • Ability to prioritize, delegate, and evaluate work assignments
  • Ability to anticipate resources needed
  • Ability to assimilate data and reports appropriately
  • Orient new employees to the unit and report progress to charge nurse or nurse manager
  • Routine contact with physicians, ancillary personnel, other nursing personnel, patients, family, visitors
  • Demonstrate effective interpersonal skills with all customers/co‑workers and in all aspects of patient care and job performance
