Overview

Director of Student-Athlete Wellness & Performance at Mississippi Valley State University. This role develops policy and procedures relative to nutrition education, weight and body composition management, use of dietary supplements, prevention of heat illness and dehydration, fueling for optimal performance, ergogenic aids, injury and illness recovery and sport-specific nutrition. Implement SA360 and Game Plan for health and wellness for student-athletes. Provide education for teams and coaches on proper nutrition during home and away competition as it relates to fueling needs.

Oversee nutritional educational materials, social media interactions, and student-athlete dining education materials. Support education of student athletes regarding nutrition, sleep, and healthy living practices. Design year-round sport-specific fitness and physical performance plans in collaboration with head coaches. Monitor and direct team and individual workouts for athletic teams. Teach proper technique for all lifts and movement training. Hire, train and supervise student workers.

Collaborate with athletic trainers to create and oversee rehabilitation programs for injured athletes as well as prevention programs for team practices. Knowledge of medical terminology. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Assist with game day events. Attend departmental staff meetings as required. Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Minimum two years of experience working as a coach, assistant coach or intern in health and wellness and strength and conditioning. Prior experience in higher education preferred.
  • Certification by NSCA (CSCS) or CSCCA.
  • Current CPR, First Aid and AED certification.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize work, take initiative, resolve problems, and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Excellent communication skills — listening, verbal, written and interpersonal.
  • Ability to analyze movement, make corrections, and communicate effectively.
  • Ability to set annual goals and work toward achieving them.
  • Knowledge of NCAA DI rules including sports medicine best practices.
  • Ability to work nights and weekends.
  • Ability to establish good rapport and working relationships with student-athletes, coaching staff, administration, university personnel, and the general public.
Physical Demands

Carrying (lbs) & lifting (lbs), stooping, bending, kneeling, squatting, walking, standing, sitting, climbing, balancing, use of hands to finger, handle or feel, and related activities.
