POSITION OPEN:
Special Education Para educator
LOCATION:
Adult Transition Program and Burton Elementary
HOURS:
30 hours per week COMPENSATION:
Per the Berkley Education Association of Paraeducators (BEAP)
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High School Diploma required; 2 years of college preferred.
- Experienced Para educator with background assisting a student with disabilities.
- General knowledge of high school curriculum in reading, writing, math and science; skills in these areas at the K-5 school level.
- Positive, upbeat, caring, flexible; able to adapt to the physical and emotional needs of the student.
- Cooperative, dependable, shows initiative and accepts direction.
- Knowledge of computer‑assisted instruction; typing skills desirable.
- C.P.I. training with current record on file or willingness to be trained.
- Able to lift at least 50 pounds, stoop, bend and kneel on both knees, and physically manage a student if necessary.
Instructional:
- Assist students in the general education classroom with note‑taking, testing, etc.
- Assist in encouraging independent toileting.
- Help students participate in small groups as directed by the classroom teacher.
- Check and correct papers and prepare materials under the teacher’s direction.
- Assist with audio‑visual and computer setups and operation.
- Monitor instruction activities of the student and assist as appropriate or directed.
- Assist teacher with daily home‑school assignment book/log.
- Assist students at lunch time.
- Maintain flexible hours and adjust working time to the student’s needs as determined by the classroom teacher and other staff.
- Assist teacher in maintaining inventory of equipment, supplies and materials.
- Assist in maintaining files and records.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervising teacher, special education coordinator and building administrator.
