Graduate Assistant – Academic Coaching
The Academic Coaching Graduate Assistant will act as a liaison between the Learning Commons and communities within the Stocktonand Turlock campuses. The coach provides coaching to students on learning strategies and college success skills, promotes services, and connects students to resources. The role includes participation in online and in‑person staff development, facilitation of academic success workshops, data input and tracking, contribution to research, development of marketing materials, outreach to students, referral to Learning Commons and campus resources, and other projects as assigned.
The assistant will also assist the Learning Commons in promoting services, coordinating support interventions, implementing culturally responsive learning support models, creating learning strategy resources, and supporting data collection and assessment efforts to increase student success.
- Act as liaison between the Learning Commons and campus communities.
- Provide coaching on learning strategies and college success skills.
- Promote services and connect students to resources.
- Participate in staff development, both online and in‑person.
- Facilitate academic success workshops.
- Assist with data input, tracking, and assessment.
- Contribute to research and development of marketing materials.
- Conduct outreach and refer students to campus resources.
- Engage in other projects or tasks as assigned.
- Assist the Learning Commons in coordinating support interventions.
- Implement culturally responsive learning support models.
- Create learning strategy resources.
- Post-baccalaureate students in a graduate program must be registered in a minimum of four (4) Fall/Spring units.
- Completion of a Bachelor’s degree.
- Enrollment in a graduate program.
- Required submission of a cover letter, resume, available work schedule, and class schedule.
- Experience with academic coaching models that support students from diverse backgrounds.
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
- Good judgment and ability to work independently without direct supervision.
- Strong prioritization, multitasking, and follow‑through skills in connecting with students.
- Assistance with assessment of programmatic and holistic student success outcomes.
- Ability to work with diverse groups of students, faculty, and staff.
- Experience facilitating workshops and/or presentations.
- Excellent technology skills:
Word, Excel, Learning Center Management Platform (Stan Tutor), Warrior Connect (EAB), Canvas, and other software. - Experience providing learning support or academic coaching in virtual and in‑person environments.
- Experience collecting or creating learning support resources and tools accessible to participants or peer educators.
- Team‑oriented work style and ability to build referral networks for students.
- Experience working with students in groups and in one‑on‑one settings.
- Knowledge of Learning Commons services and campus resources.
- Knowledge of campus policies and procedures.
- Persistence and creativity in encouraging use of services and problem‑solving.
- Collaboration with Learning Commons and grant staff, faculty, and graduate students.
- Ability to work for at least two semesters.
Wage/Salary: Approximately $1,623 per month based on 19 hours worked per week at 0.5 FTE
Hours per week: 20 hours
Location: Coaches will be assigned to either the Stockton or Turlock campus; most work hours will be on that campus, with occasional travel between the two campuses for meetings and trainings.
