Job Overview

Part‑time lecturer in horticulture at California State University, Stanislaus, Turlock. Teaching and curriculum activity in the Agriculture Program's Horticulture concentration. Position is temporary/lecturer, requiring a sustainable garden field laboratory experience and active fieldwork integration.

Responsibilities
  • Teach courses focused on integrated pest management, weed biology, tree and fruit crop production, and horticulture principles and practices.
  • Integrate classroom instruction with field trips, hands‑on farm training, and workshops to deepen theoretical and practical understanding.
  • Develop specialized course content and experiential learning programs as needed.
  • Mentor and advise a diverse student population, including those seeking Pest Control Advisor (PCA) and Certified Crop Advisor (CCA) licenses.
  • Provide technical support to local farmers and ranchers if required.
  • Explore competitive grant opportunities for summer activities and interdisciplinary projects on the campus sustainable garden and orchard.
Minimum Qualifications
  • M.S. or equivalent in Horticulture, Plant Science, Agronomy, Pomology, or a closely related field.
  • Demonstrated commitment to teaching excellence with evidence of positive student evaluations.
  • Evidence of experience or interest in serving a highly diverse student population.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Practitioner candidates with effective teaching at community college or university levels.
  • Proficiency in online instruction.
  • Agricultural extension experience and a strong background in production/management of California crops.
  • Familiarity with controlled environment agriculture platforms.
  • Experience developing student experiential learning programs in high school or community college settings.
