Full‑time Lead Electrician available on or after April 6, 2026 in the Building Maintenance Department. The incumbent leads and coordinates the work of a small crew of journey‑level electricians and semi‑skilled assistants while actively performing skilled electrical tasks. Responsibilities include laying out project work, preparing material lists, ordering supplies, overseeing workmanship for compliance with codes, instructing crew members in safety practices, maintaining records and reports, and coordinating with other trades on project activities.
Job Duties- Inspect, isolate, troubleshoot, and repair electrical malfunctions using various test instruments.
- Maintain and repair electrical systems including power, lighting, fire alarm, and access systems.
- Operate electrical power‑generating plants and other electrical equipment and systems.
- Test electrical equipment for safety and efficiency.
- Install, maintain, and repair new or remodeled electrical systems.
- Fabricate electrical parts; perform incidental welding as necessary to complete electrical work.
- Advise on the selection and storage of electrical equipment.
- Estimate cost, time, and materials for electrical projects.
- Participate in the maintenance and operation of an electrical shop.
- Clean, maintain, and service tools and equipment used in the performance of duties.
- Maintain work areas in a clean, orderly, and safe condition.
- Perform electrical preventive maintenance and repairs in accordance with established schedules.
- Read and work from blueprints, plans, drawings, and specifications to determine work methods and procedures.
- Plan, lay out, and schedule electrical work to ensure efficient use of materials and labor.
- Lead, instruct, and coordinate the work of a small group or crew of electricians and assistants.
- Provide instruction and on‑the‑job training to less skilled workers.
- Inspect completed work for conformance with specifications, requirements, and applicable building and safety codes and regulations.
- Inspect related work performed by contractors.
- Perform all work in accordance with established safety procedures.
- Coordinate electrical work with other trades to ensure safe and timely completion of projects.
- Assist in developing cost estimates, work sequences, and project schedules.
- Ensure that work performed meets quality requirements and specifications.
- Advise supervisors or managers on work progress, materials needs, and problems encountered.
- Participate in the design and modification of electrical systems.
- Maintain a safe and clean work environment.
- Maintain records and retrieve data related to work performed using manual and/or computerized record‑keeping systems.
- Prepare standard reports, time sheets, and material requisitions.
- Maintain shop inventory and assist in ordering parts, materials, and supplies.
- Ensure all work complies with applicable codes, rules, regulations, and campus policies.
- Monitor and maintain preventive maintenance schedules and service logs.
- Assist in the development and maintenance of campus electrical standards and safety programs.
- Support adherence to university, state, and federal codes and safety regulations.
- May provide input on performance evaluations and work planning.
- Maintain effective working relationships with administrators, faculty, staff, and other trades.
- Perform other related duties as assigned to support the electrical maintenance and operations program.
- May require additional training and/or certification as part of professional development.
- At the direction of appropriate administrator, may provide support to other areas as needed.

Education: Journeyman‑level skills equivalent to completion of a standard electrician’s apprenticeship program, attained through progressively responsible training and experience.
