The Department of Civil, Construction and Environmental Engineering (CCEE) and the College of Engineering at The University of Alabama (UA) invite applications for multiple tenure-track positions at the rank of Associate Professor in the area of Water Resources Engineering. Areas of particular interest include field hydrology, sensor technologies and platforms for water resources monitoring, multilevel water observation and edge computing, artificial intelligence for hydrologic observation and analysis, and integration of water observations with hydro informatics tools for data management, processing, and visualization.
Positions may also be available at the Assistant and/or Full Professor ranks.
This posting is specific for candidates applying for a position at the rank of tenure-track Associate Professor. Applications from candidates with appropriate experience and a strong record of scholarly productivity and impact who would seek appointment at the rank of Assistant or Full Professor should apply through related postings advertised at those other position/rank levels.
Candidates with prestigious achievements in their field and exceptional national and international reputations will be eligible for consideration for significant endowment support through appointment as an Endowed Shelby Distinguished Professor. The department seeks candidates who can contribute to building upon existing strengths and expanding the scope of research within the department, College, and UA as a whole.
Research Area- Water Resources Engineering (including field hydrology, water observing technologies, and hydro informatics).
In the area of Water Resources Engineering, we are particularly interested in candidates with research interests in field hydrology, water observation systems, and hydro informatics relevant to civil and environmental engineering and closely aligned with the Alabama Water Institute (AWI) and the Cooperative Institute for Research to Operations in Hydrology (CIROH). Candidates should possess expertise in one or more of the following research areas:
- Remote sensing and water observing technologies.
- Hydrologic information systems and hydro informatics.
- Hydrologic data management, visualization, analytics, and web applications.
- Large-domain hydrologic modeling.
Applicants must demonstrate an ability to develop and teach courses at both the undergraduate and graduate level in their area(s) of expertise, as well as to teach courses that support the delivery and accreditation of the department’s core degree programs. Excellent teaching at both graduate and undergraduate levels is required.
Minimum Qualifications- Earned Ph.D. in Architectural, Civil, Construction or Environmental Engineering or a closely related discipline from an accredited institution.
- Demonstrated record of prior research work and a record of impactful scholarly publications in refereed journals, conference proceedings, and similarly impactful venues.
- Demonstrated interest and/or record in engineering and/or education and professional service in area(s) of specialization.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Show the potential to construct and sustain a quality research program.
- Exhibit the potential for excellent teaching at both the graduate and undergraduate levels.
- Have 5+ years of experience as a tenure-track/tenured faculty member at a leading peer R1 institution.
- Demonstrated a record of high-quality research and scholarly publications that is recognized nationally and/or internationally.
- Significant record of scholarship in architectural, civil, construction, or environmental engineering, or a closely related department with both undergraduate and graduate degree programs.
