The Department of Human Development and Family Studies, College of Human Environmental Sciences at The University of Alabama, seeks applicants for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Human Development and Family Studies with a specialization in Marriage and Family Therapy.

Detailed Position Information

The Department of Human Development and Family Studies, College of Human Environmental Sciences at The University of Alabama, seeks applicants for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Human Development and Family Studies with a specialization in Marriage and Family Therapy. The position is for a core faculty member in the COAMFTE-accredited master’s Marriage and Family Therapy Program. We place priority on the selection of an applicant with an active research agenda, as demonstrated by a strong record of peer-reviewed research publications and/or involvement in externally funded research.

The successful candidate will be expected to develop a robust scholarly research program with external support; teach graduate courses in the marriage and family therapy program; provide clinical supervision for students in the marriage and family therapy program; mentor undergraduate and graduate students; and engage in professional service at the campus, community, state, and/or national level.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Minimum qualifications:
  • 1. A doctorate in Marriage and Family Therapy, Couple and Family Therapy, or a related field with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy; ABD applicants will be considered provided the doctorate is completed by the August 16, 2027 start date.
  • 2. Evidence of an active research agenda, including peer-reviewed publications and/or presentations and involvement in grant submissions or externally funded research projects;
  • 3. Teaching experience in higher education;
  • 4. Clinical supervision experience; and
  • 5. Strong interpersonal skills, including effective oral and written communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Preferred qualifications:

    Degree from a COAMFTE-accredited Program, Active or license-eligible status in Marriage and Family Therapy and AAMFT Approved Supervisor or AAMFT Supervisor Candidate designation.
