Cherokee Nation System Solutions (CNSS) is seeking a qualified Research Equipment Specialist II to assist a federal client in Tuscaloosa, AL. The center supports the hydrologic data collection efforts of scientists in all 50 States, Puerto Rico and several other U.S. Territories. Hydrologic scientists and technicians measure and monitor streamflow, ground water levels and water quality at thousands of locations.
The center provides hydrologic instruments, equipment, and supplies for Federal Agencies and cooperators. The center tests, evaluates, repairs, calibrates, and develops hydrologic equipment and instruments.
Compensation & BenefitsEstimated Starting Salary Range: $24.50 - $26.00/hr.

Responsibilities- Employee shall perform testing, evaluation, and calibration activities related to water quality monitors and sensors, water‑level sensors, flow measuring sensors including mechanical velocity meters, flumes, and acoustic Doppler systems, and data acquisition and telemetry systems.
- Employee shall perform duties related to the testing, evaluation, and calibration of data acquisition systems such as data loggers and telemetry systems. Duties include providing technical assistance to field personnel, maintaining test and laboratory records, entering testing records and charges in SAP B1 or other databases, contacting vendors, contractors or manufacturers to obtain information to aid testing of equipment, and resolving testing and equipment problems.
- Employee shall perform all duties related to the testing, evaluation, and calibration of water level sensors such as pressure sensors, radars, and encoders and other related electronic instrumentation.
- Employee shall inspect, test and verify calibration of sensors and related equipment used for hydrologic measurement, including flumes, weirs, mechanical velocity meters, Acoustic Doppler Current Profilers (ADCP), Acoustic Doppler Velocity Meters, and radars. Contractor shall also perform duties such as maintaining test and calibration facilities; setting up test equipment, programs, and facilities including the tow tank, jet tank, tilting flume, Flow Tracker test tank, and ADCP test flume.
Contract personnel also perform preliminary data analysis, assist other engineers to use hydraulic lab equipment and collect data, verify the use of standard operating procedures and assist in development of new procedures. - Contractors also provide technical support, assistance, and laboratory management to customers on an “as needed” basis. This may include providing estimates regarding labor and material requirements, performing monthly equipment maintenance, inspecting and rebuilding current meters to standards, fabricating and repairing facility equipment and fixtures.
- Perform quality assurance inspections and tests on incoming warehouse stock to ensure that the equipment meets the performance specifications.
- Perform activities associated with evaluation of new equipment and instruments. Evaluation usually involves testing in environmental chambers or at field sites. Contractor shall prepare test plans, set up test equipment, test jigs, environmental chambers, equipment programs and facilities; perform preliminary data analysis and prepare written reports on evaluation results.
- Perform other quality assurance inspections and tests related to the ADCP, Flow Tracker, National Ground Water Tape Calibration and Mechanical Meter Quality Assurance Programs.
- Perform other job‑related duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma and 3–5 years of practical experience in fields such as hydrology, electronics, or mechanics preferred.
- Knowledge of hydrologic data collection and instrumentation.
- Ability to work with databases and procurement systems.
- Customer service skills and the ability to communicate effectively with various stakeholders.
