Position Summary

The Department of Mechanical Engineering is recruiting a non‑tenure‑track, renewable contract position at the rank of Professor. Exceptional applicants are sought that have a passion for teaching and curriculum development across the field of mechanical engineering.

Detailed Position Information

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at The University of Alabama invites applications for non‑tenure‑track, renewable contract faculty positions across all domains relevant to mechanical engineering. Primary duties of the successful candidate will include teaching in core lecture classes, unit operations laboratory and/or senior design courses, as well as appropriate service roles in the department.

Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must have a Ph.D. in mechanical engineering or a closely related field from an accredited institution by the date of appointment.

Preferred Qualifications

UA’s Department of Mechanical Engineering Faculty is grouped into three interconnected but distinct disciplinary groups;
Dynamic Systems & Control (DSC), Materials Processing & Manufacturing (MPM), and Thermo Fluids Science (TFS). The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate a high‑performance level in the classroom or laboratory, actively engage students, and take a leadership role in curricular matters in one or more of the disciplinary groups including developing industry‑driven capstone programs, connecting students with real engineering problems and external partners.

Special preference will be given to candidates with experience in thermofluid systems, heat transfer, combustion, decarbonization, sustainable energy and transportation systems, electrified propulsion systems, real time control systems, robotics and AI methods applied to optimization of control systems, smart manufacturing systems, including Industrial Internet of Things, Industry 4.0, CAD/CAM, metrology and systems optimization.
