We are seeking a Packaging Engineer Sr to support Lockheed Martin (LM) Space – Production Operations. The selected candidate will be part of the Product Protection Engineering team supporting Courtland Packaging, Handling, Storage, and Transportation (PHST).
Responsibilities- Leverage internal and industry standards to design packaging solutions that meet product specifications and preserve the ‘as‑manufactured’ state of Lockheed Martin products.
- Ensure regulatory compliance of outbound hazardous materials shipments.
- Apply gap analysis to existing processes to ensure system efficiency.
- Assist in creation of product protection specifications.
- Test packaging designs to ensure compliance with DOT regulations and performance standards.
- Utilize CAD software and product data management systems to produce, review and release product protection solutions.
- Be comfortable in a production environment, performing technical drawing reviews and support, and assisting with transportation/logistics initiatives.
- Positively communicate and collaborate, requiring strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.
- Proficiency with CAD software.
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or demonstrated equivalent experience.
- Experience with packaging, certifying and shipping hazardous materials.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office software including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- US citizenship.
- Proficiency with Creo Parametric.
- Demonstrated knowledge of 49 CFR hazardous materials packaging and transportation.
- Certifications related to transportation of hazardous materials.
- Demonstrated knowledge of military and industry packaging standards, including, but not limited to, MIL‑STD‑2073, MIL‑STD‑810, ASTM D6261 and ASTM D6251.
- Experience with the application of ASME Y14.5 and Y14.100 drafting standards and practices.
- Experience with Military Preservation and Packaging (SPIs, Data Item Descriptions, Packaging and Preservation Plans).
- Ability to understand, interpret and apply industry standards.
- Experience with packaging and handling of high‑value spacecraft critical hardware.
- Experience with contamination‑control sensitive hardware (ESD, shock, UV, vibration, humidity, corrosion, etc.).
- Experience with Creo View and Creo Illustrate.
- Experience with process specifications, manufacturing processes and product‑specific requirements.
- Familiarity with SAP.
- Experience performing and conducting peer reviews.
- Ability to perform static stress calculations in determining shock and vibration attenuation.
