Seeking an experienced Process Safety Engineer to lead and strengthen Process Safety Management (PSM) programs at a major chemical manufacturing facility. This role is responsible for ensuring compliance with OSHA PSM regulations, driving risk reduction initiatives, supporting plant operations, and fostering a strong process safety culture across the site. Working closely with operations, maintenance, engineering, and leadership teams, you'll play a key role in protecting people, assets, and the environment while supporting safe and reliable production.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and continuously improve the site's OSHA Process Safety Management (PSM) program
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA 29 CFR  and applicable EPA Risk Management Program (RMP) requirements
  • Develop and execute annual Process Safety objectives, plans, and performance metrics
  • Support plant leadership in identifying, prioritizing, and mitigating process safety risks
  • Maintain Process Safety Information (PSI) and ensure documentation remains accurate and inspection-ready
  • Coordinate and support Process Hazard Analyses (PHA), Layers of Protection Analysis (LOPA), and resolution of recommendations
  • Serve as the site Subject Matter Expert for Management of Change (MOC) and Pre-Startup Safety Review (PSSR) processes
  • Monitor and report Process Safety performance using leading and lagging indicators, including API RP 754 metrics
  • Partner with operations, maintenance, engineering, and reliability teams to support safe plant modifications and maintenance activities
  • Support Mechanical Integrity programs by coordinating inspections, tracking findings, and ensuring corrective actions are completed
  • Participate in capital projects to ensure Process Safety requirements are incorporated throughout project execution
  • Conduct Process Safety audits, self-assessments, and support regulatory inspections
  • Investigate Process Safety incidents and develop effective corrective actions using Root Cause Analysis methodologies
  • Provide technical guidance and Process Safety expertise to plant personnel
  • Deliver Process Safety training, coaching, and awareness initiatives to strengthen site capability and accountability
  • Collaborate with Corporate EHS and other manufacturing sites to implement best practices and standardize Process Safety programs
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Chemistry, or a related technical discipline
  • Minimum 5 years of experience within chemical manufacturing, petrochemical, refining, or other process manufacturing environments
  • Hands-on experience supporting or managing OSHA Process Safety Management (PSM) programs
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR  and Process Safety principles
  • Experience supporting cross-functional teams including Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, and Reliability
  • Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Experience using Microsoft Office and technical database systems
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining a strong focus on safety and compliance
Preferred Experience
  • Experience leading or facilitating Process Hazard Analyses (PHA)
  • Knowledge of Layers of Protection Analysis (LOPA)
  • Exposure to Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS), Safety Integrity Levels (SIL), and Safety Instrumented Functions (SIF)
  • Experience with Process Safety software packages
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Associate Safety Professional (ASP)
  • Experience with Root Cause Analysis methodologies such as Apollo, Cause Mapping, FMEA, Fault Tree Analysis, or 5 Whys
  • Experience supporting EPA Risk Management Program (RMP) compliance
  • Previous experience within ammonia, fertilizer, chemical, or petrochemical manufacturing
