Job Description
This position is for an entry-level Engineer within the Datacenter Engineering Group.
The Group focuses on delivering large-scale platform solutions across public (AWS, GCP) and private cloud (VMware, Open Shift) environments.
Exposure to or hands‑on experience with Dev Ops tools such as Git, Ansible, Terraform, Python, and Gitlab is required to develop repeatable patterns and solutions.
In addition to a solid infrastructure foundation, the engineer must be a scrappy and creative problem solver willing to work wherever needed, blending strong foundational infrastructure knowledge, modern application technologies, a Dev Sec Ops mindset, and Site Reliability Engineering principles.
Compensation
: $80,000 - $131,000 per year. Salary may vary by job level and geographic location. Relocation support is offered for eligible candidates. This role is not approved for H‑1B visa sponsorship.
- Participate in on‑call rotation and perform incident triage, determining scope, urgency, and impact.
- Make recommendations and build automation to enable expeditious remediation.
- Learn new technology and processes quickly.
- Participate in technology evaluations and re‑engineering activities to support continuous improvement.
- Provide consistent documentation for design decisions, estimating assumptions, code modules, and performance metrics.
- Prepare and participate in platform, code, and documentation walkthroughs.
- Collaborate with others regarding system flow, data usage, and manual or automated processes to verify functionality.
- Ensure software development meets standards for programming, design, performance, quality, and security.
- Identify and recommend areas for improvement in planning, design, development, and testing.
- Analyze and interpret performance data such as CPU, memory, and storage.
- Develop and maintain automation run‑books for on‑prem and cloud environments using Terraform, Ansible, and related tools.
- Participate in large‑scale resiliency solutions, data protection, and disaster recovery solutions.
- Understand and manage enterprise operating systems through golden images, patching, and system hardening.
- Own small‑to‑medium automation tasks within larger projects under guidance from senior or lead engineers.
- Experience developing customer‑driven solutions, support, or service.
- Basic knowledge of integration and migration strategies and technologies.
- Basic knowledge of application architecture, design alternatives, and development standards.
- Experience developing complex software/systems in one or more programming languages.
- Experience interpreting, modifying, and writing application system design and program specifications.
- Experience using and supporting integration and communications technologies between applications, databases, and technology platforms.
- Experience with relational databases and SQL.
- Solid understanding of the SDLC.
- Experience testing applications to ensure functional and quality requirements are met.
- 1–3 years of relevant experience, including internships, co‑ops, or verifiable academic projects.
- Working knowledge of hyper‑scale platforms such as VMware, AWS, Red Hat Open Shift, or Google Cloud.
- Foundational system administration (OS configuration, installations, patch management, server maintenance).
- Network foundations knowledge (firewalls, proxies, IP management, routing, DNS).
- Understanding of OS hardening practices and templating deployments from standardized images.
- Experience establishing and supporting integration and communication protocols (RESTful APIs, GraphQL, micro‑services).
- Experience with agentic platforms such as Anthropic Claude.
- Strong technical communication skills.
- Knowledge of security best practices, secure coding, secrets management, and certificates.
- Proficiency in Python, Linux, Shell, Bash, or other programming languages.
- Participation in agile processes, completing stories in sprints.
- Proficiency in Git/Gitlab source code control, branching, bug tracking, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Understanding of resilient system design, high availability, and disaster recovery.
- Familiarity with container platforms, Kubernetes, Open Shift.
