Job Summary: The Programmer Analyst III designs, develops, supports, and codes moderate- to high-complexity software and hardware systems to support the administrative function of the University under minimal supervision. This may include enterprise and highly critical applications. Develops processes and web applications. Creates workflows. Installs, customizes, supports, and creates integrations for vendor-supplied software systems. Works on a team and collaborates with specific departments, colleges, and customers around campus.

Supports their needs, troubleshooting and resolving issues, and responding to their questions and concerns in a timely manner.

Department Summary:

This position is a part of the Business Systems Administration team, which primarily supports and enhances business processes across Workday Financial Management, Supply Chain, Human Capital Management (HCM), and Payroll by developing, maintaining, and optimizing Workday integrations and/or reports and analytics. Works under general guidance to deliver high‑quality, scalable, and supportable integration solutions and/or reports aligned with Workday best practices.

Participates in all phases of the integration lifecycle: requirements gathering, design, development, unit testing, end‑to‑end testing, deployment, and post‑production support. Reviews upcoming Workday releases to assess impacts on existing integrations and/or reports, calculated fields, dashboards, and data sources. Collaborates with functional teams, vendors, and technical personnel to troubleshoot Integrations issues or report discrepancies/errors, and performance issues across Workday tenants and external systems.

This team helps to support the following campus partners:
Office of Finance and Human Resources. This position is expected to act as the primary liaison between integration or report developers, functional teams, and external partners. Additionally, serves as a mentor and technical leader within the EDAS team. Supports team members by sharing knowledge of integration tools or reports, development standards, and assisting with troubleshooting techniques. Leads small to moderately complex projects or report initiatives, including planning, task assignment, and coordination with cross‑functional teams.

The University of Alabama is embarking to transition its on‑premises finance and HCM ERP systems to a modern cloud platform. This position is time‑limited to the duration of the project due to additional department staffing needs while engaged in this project but could lead to regular employment at the University.

Required

Minimum Qualifications:

Master's degree and two (2) years of IT programming experience; OR bachelor's degree and four (4) years of IT programming experience; OR associate's degree and six (6) years of IT experience to include four (4) years of IT programming; OR High school diploma or GED and eight (8) years of IT experience to include four (4) years of IT programming.

Skills and Knowledge:Ability to effectively communicate, both verbally and in writing, and work with customer groups and users of varying degrees of technical ability and understanding. The ability to manage work tasks using Atlassian JIRA tickets and follow through to completion. Have effective time management skills and ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously. Troubleshooting skills to independently learn of, analyze, track, and resolve issues.

The ability to implement departmental and critical third‑party applications, analyzing installation and configuration documentation, to successfully install and take on support for an application. Strong attention to detail for support of applications involving financial transactions or critical application data.
