The University of Alabama Libraries is hiring a Metadata Analytics Librarian at the Assistant or Associate Professor rank. The role directs the creation, management, analysis, and development of metadata to support discovery, access, preservation, and stewardship of library collections and scholarly resources, while collaborating with library faculty and staff to implement metadata workflows and standards.

Highlights
  • Provide expertise in descriptive metadata, authority control, metadata normalization, and large-scale metadata remediation.
  • Manage metadata across platforms like FOLIO, discovery layers, institutional repositories, archival systems, and digital collections.
  • Contribute to the FOLIO library services platform implementation and metadata strategy.
  • Salary range from $80,000 to $100,000 with strong benefits including professional development, tuition fee waiver, and retirement contributions.
  • Minimum qualifications include a Master s in Library and Information Science or a doctoral degree in a quantitative field and experience with MARC
    21, RDA, LC Classification, and other metadata standards.
  • Knowledge of archival description standards such as DACS and EAD, and experience using OCLC Connexion and integrated library systems.
  • Preferred candidates have 3-5 years of academic library experience and skills in metadata tools like Marc Edit, Open Refine, Python, R, and SQL.
  • Experience with linked data technologies (BIBFRAME, RDF), metadata interoperability, and metadata workflow design is favored.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to manage projects, navigate change, and pursue grant opportunities.
  • Serves the University Libraries system that supports research and teaching with cutting-edge resources and membership in national library consortia.
