The University of Alabama is hiring a High Performance Computing Network Engineer II. The role involves administering and supporting the High Performance Computing Center's network equipment and enterprise networks, resolving network issues, and assisting with the strategic planning and design of the university's HPCC network.
Highlights- Perform network administration for the university's High Performance Computing Center and enterprise wired and wireless networks.
- Maintain network equipment including switches, access points, controllers, UPS, and security devices.
- Serve as an escalation resource for routing, performance, and network problems.
- Participate in identification, analysis, and resolution of network issues of low to moderate complexity.
- Assist in strategy, planning, and design of the HPCC network infrastructure.
- Manage Layer 2 switch configuration, network fiber paths, IP address management, and network closet UPS.
- Required skills include broad knowledge of TCP/IP protocols (RIP, OSPF, BGP, PIM), IP wired and wireless network architectures, LAN/WAN protocols, and security standards.
- Preferred qualifications include a Master's degree, CCNA certification, and experience with Cisco Nexus switches, Catalyst switches, Cisco Aironet APs, Check Point firewalls, and HPCC hardware/software.
- Compensation ranges from $83,500 to $112,700 annually (Salaried E13 grade).
- Must have a valid U.S. driver's license and comply with driving requirements; background check required prior to hire.
