About the Role
The General Maintenance position within the Accommodation and Food Services industry is pivotal in ensuring that all facilities and equipment operate efficiently and safely to provide a comfortable environment for guests and staff. By proactively addressing maintenance needs, the role supports the overall guest experience and operational continuity. Collaboration with other departments to prioritize and schedule maintenance tasks is essential to meet organizational goals and compliance requirements.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Proven experience in general maintenance or a related field, preferably within the accommodation or food service industry.
- Basic knowledge of electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and carpentry systems.
- Ability to use hand and power tools safely and effectively.
- Strong problem‑solving skills and attention to detail.
- Technical certification or vocational training in maintenance, electrical, plumbing, or HVAC.
- Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
- Familiarity with health and safety regulations relevant to accommodation and food service environments.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays, as needed.
- First aid and CPR certification.
- Conduct regular inspections of building systems and equipment to identify maintenance needs and potential hazards.
- Perform repairs and preventive maintenance on plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and structural elements to ensure optimal operation.
- Respond promptly to maintenance requests from staff and management, prioritizing tasks based on urgency and impact.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, including work orders, inspections, and inventory of supplies.
- Collaborate with external contractors and vendors when specialized repairs or services are required.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies during all maintenance activities.
- Assist in setting up and maintaining equipment and facilities for special events or operational changes.
The required skills enable the maintenance professional to efficiently diagnose and resolve a wide range of facility issues, ensuring minimal disruption to operations. Proficiency with tools and equipment is essential for performing repairs and preventive maintenance safely and effectively. Strong problem‑solving abilities allow the individual to identify root causes and implement lasting solutions. Communication and collaboration skills are important for coordinating with team members and external vendors to complete tasks promptly.
