Job Summary

The Vice President for Community Impact serves as the executive leader responsible for designing and implementing an evidence-based, enterprise-wide strategy for external partnerships and community engagement at The University of Alabama. This role collaborates closely with academic and administrative leaders to enhance the University’s reputation across all mission areas by identifying, cultivating, and advancing high-impact relationships throughout the community, across the state, and nation.

Department Summary

Reporting to the Senior Vice President for Partnerships and Strategy, serves as key advisor to the President, Senior Vice President for Partnerships and Strategy, and executive team on external partnerships, outreach and service. Collaborates with leaders across the university and state to advance initiatives that expand UA’s impact on the community, across the state, and in the nation. Leads and contributes to efforts that grow philanthropic, local, state, and federal support for UA and UA System initiatives, while working closely with the President’s Office and UA System Government Relations Office to advance priorities at both the state and federal levels.

Partners with the CFO and HR leadership to ensure future resources and talent are aligned with the University’s long-term enterprise strategy. Supports the University’s mission of teaching, research, and service by advancing initiatives that enhance the quality of life for individuals, communities, and the state, ensuring all efforts are fully aligned with the University’s and President’s strategic priorities, and delivered with efficiency and substantial impact.

Required

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree or higher and thirteen (13) years of progressively responsible experience in higher education or the public sector, building community engagement and partnerships.

Skills and Knowledge

Substantive management experience. Strong understanding of higher education policy and administration. Strong understanding of and connections to the State of Alabama, its educational, workforce, and economic resources and needs. Exceptional communication and relationship-building skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Terminal degree. Significant experience and success leading an external-facing and/or community engagement function in higher education. Demonstrated success in partnership development. Strong understanding of The University of Alabama, its resources, and needs. Experience developing and applying meaningful strategies and metrics to measure success.
