Day in the LifeAs a Sawfiler, you will set up and operate file room machinery including saws, lathes, drills, grinders, sanders, and other equipment to support safe and accurate manufacturing. Your day will include inspecting and measuring work pieces, welding saws, changing knives, completing work orders, and ensuring all tasks meet production and quality standards. This role is essential to keeping equipment operating smoothly and maintaining overall mill productivity.
Key Responsibilities- Set up and operate all machines in the file room, including saws, lathes, drills, grinders, and sanders.
- Inspect and measure work pieces to ensure they meet specifications.
- Weld saws and complete work orders from start to finish with minimal supervision.
- Change knives on machines as required.
- Maintain high-quality standards throughout all stages of the process.
- Follow all safety procedures, including PPE requirements and compliance with the lockout program.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the file room Supervisor.
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Willingness to work any shift, including weekends, holidays, or overtime.
- Strong commitment to safety and excellent attendance.
- Good communication skills and ability to work in a team environment.
- Ability to learn, adapt to change, and work in a noisy industrial environment.
- Ability to follow all safety policies and wear required PPE.
- Experience operating mobile equipment (front-end loader, skid steer, forklift) in an industrial or manufacturing setting.
- Basic computer skills.
- Experience in the lumber, wood products, or manufacturing industry.
- Experience troubleshooting equipment.
- Sawmill experience preferred.
- Ability to lift at least 40 pounds.
- Ability to work from elevated positions using required safety gear.
- Ability to perform tasks such as climbing, walking, lifting, pushing, pulling, and standing for extended periods.
- Ability to work in a variety of environmental conditions.
