Position: RN (Relief) - 3560

Registered Nurse

Crisis Center Relief (Hours vary) 12‑hour shifts;
Days or Nights.

Location: Tuscaloosa, AL.

Compensation: $2500 SIGN ON BONUS.

Competencies
  • Working knowledge of psychiatric disorders in adult populations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of general and psychiatric nursing care.
  • Effective knowledge of adult clients as related to all intellectual, emotional, spiritual, and physical aspects of their development.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of behavior management, crisis intervention, and interventions common to acute psychiatric clients as well as non‑violent crisis intervention practice.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead assigned staff.
  • Knowledge of instruction and teaching tools appropriate to adult populations.
  • Knowledge of cultural diversity.
Essential Functions /

Job Responsibilities
  • Complete the admission process for clients including nursing assessments, medication lists, EMR/MARs, and physician orders.
  • Complete nursing assessment form on admission.
  • Monitor medical, physical, mental, and behavioral status of clients.
  • Review all referrals and psychiatric consults, update EMR and MAR.
  • Follow‑up on lab and medical tests.
  • Transcribe/post all medication orders to the EMR/MAR.
  • Provide medication education to staff including uses and side effects.
  • Provide training to client, staff, or MAC worker as needed.
  • Communicate effectively with Nurse Manager, CRNP, and physician regarding client’s condition.
  • Monitor clients for medication side effects and report findings.
  • Administer medications/treatments, observing the Six Rights of Medication Administration.
  • Supervise MAC workers as assigned.
  • Perform medical monitoring according to Crisis Center protocols.
  • Provide observation in assigned areas; report any medical or psychiatric issues to Nurse Manager, CRNP, psychiatrist, and Clinical Manager.
  • Provide emergency care as needed (CPR, PRN medications) per IR policies.
  • Recognize crisis states and de‑escalate or resolve the situation.
  • Perform on‑call responsibilities as assigned.
  • Adhere to professional code of ethics.
  • Ensure safety, fire prevention, and other procedures are followed.
  • Execute duties per Indian Rivers Behavioral Health policies and procedures.
  • Follow Department of Mental Health and Medicaid standards.
  • Maintain a good driving record for client transport and related business.
  • Maintain communication and awareness of current events through memos, emails, bulletin boards, and logs.
  • Work independently or in teams to complete tasks accurately and timely with minimal supervision.
  • Support organizational code of conduct, standards compliance, HIPAA, and security programs.
  • Maintain confidentiality of client and organization information.
  • Adhere to attendance and punctuality policy.
  • Comply with safety and health standards (TB Test, CPR/First Aid, CPI).
  • Identify opportunities for improving the quality of services provided.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the supervisor or Executive Director.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Current RN license to practice in Alabama.
  • Preferred experience in a mental health setting.
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology in psychiatric care.
  • Familiarity with psycho‑pharmacy and psychotropic medications for adults preferred.
  • Valid Alabama driver’s license and safe driving record.
  • Read, write, speak, and comprehend English legibly.
Working Conditions and Guidelines

Work in general office, residential facility, and community settings, including long hours and potential interaction with aggressive clients. Requires physical capability to use office equipment, operate vehicles, and respond to emergencies (CPR, first aid). Must keep up-to-date credentials such as CPR/First Aid, TB Test, and CPI. Existing E‑Verify participation and compliance with HIPAA, OSHA, and other applicable regulations are required.
