Position: Substitute Nurse-LPN (Tuscaloosa City Schools)

Licensed Practical Nurse / Health Aide

JOB GOAL

To assist in providing services to schools that work toward the good health and wellness of students and the improvement of health conditions in general.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Possess a current license from Alabama Board of Nursing designating Licensed Practical Nurse.
  • Current CPR card.
  • Minimum of two (2) years experience in hospital or community health setting.
  • Valid driver's license and the ability to have access to appropriate transportation to meet job requirements.
  • Must meet the suitability criteria for employment and/or certification/licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. .

    REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE,

    SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of Board policies and procedures.
  • Effective written and oral communication skills.
  • Knowledge of current general medical and pediatric nursing practices.
  • Skilled in the use of testing and measurements for assessing vision, and other appropriate health screening activities and programs. (ie: Immunization Audits)
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents and school faculties.
  • Ability to use and implement computer technology programs including Microsoft Office and e-mail.
  • Physical and emotional ability and dexterity to perform required work and move about as needed in a fast-paced, high-intensive work environment.
  • ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Providing nursing care for students requiring special health procedures.
  • Referring parents, students, teachers, health agencies, and individuals for health counseling to the assigned RN.
  • Maintaining proper and accurate documentation.
  • Contacting principal and Health Services regarding crisis situations in the school. This includes child abuse, threatened suicide and accidents.
  • Assisting students with medications according to approved procedures.
  • Administering first aid in accordance with established first aid procedures.
  • Adheres to rules and regulations.
  • Assists the RN in screening programs and school programs. (Spinal Screening, Vision Screening and Immunization Audit).
  • Takes leave time in accordance with Board policy and reports all absences to Sub Finder in a timely manner.
  • Performs other related and equitable duties as may be assigned.
  • TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

    The terms of employment shall be in accordance with provisions of the Board's Policy Manual, Students First Act and the Board's Salary Schedule – Licensed Practical Nurse.

    EVALUATION

    Performance evaluation shall be in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Support Personnel - GCRK and GCRK-R.
