Job SummaryThe Plumber Utility Mechanic I assists in the fabrication, installation, maintenance and repair of heating, plumbing, mechanical piping systems, structural steel, package boiler equipment, water treatment, kitchen equipment, auxiliary equipment, steam, water, gas systems and other building mechanical equipment. Responsibilities include work on above- and underground steam, domestic water, HVAC (chilled and hot water), sanitary and storm distribution systems, and firing, tending and maintaining pressure boilers to supply heat for buildings and domestic hot water.
Drives from site to site.
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Two (2) years of experience in plumbing, pipe fitting, structural steel (iron worker), boilermaker, millwright, boiler tender, steamfitter, or sprinkler fitter
- Valid U.S. driver's license and acceptable Motor Vehicle Report in compliance with University policies
- Minimum age 19 at time of hire
- Applicants under the age of 21 will have some driving restrictions
Minimum Qualifications
Final candidates must submit to and successfully pass a post-offer drug screen.
Skills and Knowledge- Ability to lift, handle, and maneuver tools, materials, and supplies of the job
- Ability to read, interpret, and troubleshoot blueprints, drawings, manuals, maps, schematics, and plans
- Ability to perform material takeoffs
- Good people skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- State of Alabama Journeyman Plumbers License or Alabama Master Plumbers License
- Welding experience
