Position Title
Students First Career Advisor
Job SummaryThis is a continuous open announcement. The Students First Career Advisor position provides individual and group advising to students concerning the discovery of career interests, seeking and securing internships, experiential and professional opportunities, and navigating the transition from college to career. This role conducts workshops on a variety of career readiness topics and assists with the execution of career related events.
Responsibilities- Provide individual and group career education activities such as mock/practice interviewing
- Develop and present career workshops and classroom presentations (interviewing strategies, resume writing, job search tips, graduate school preparation, etc.)
- Prepare students for job, career, and graduate school fairs
- Provide graduate school coaching and application assistance
- Provide career coaching/counseling for students and alumni
- Help students identify personal and career goals and develop leadership skills and strategies for success
- Help students with job search skills and strategies
- Assist in enhancing career development initiatives through employer engagement by collaborating with faculty, staff, students, and clubs and organizations; creating opportunities for students to connect with employers
- Research job market, employment, and salary trends, and industry information to identify target organizations and industries
- Work with the Office of Alumni Affairs to identify alumni and friends of the college for networking, education and mentoring opportunities
- Assist with training and supervision of Career Assistants (student workers)
- Perform other duties as assigned
- A bachelor’s degree with experience in higher education, student services, education, administration, human resources/recruiting or related field is required
- Work is performed primarily in a standard office environment with frequent public contact and interruptions
- Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting; to sit for prolonged periods of time
- Operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard
Knowledge of: Career service placement, processes, and procedures
Skills:
- Proficiency with Microsoft office
- Proficiency in career placement software such as Handshake
- Travel required
- Night, weekend, and after hour work required
- No grant or contract funding support
