Assistant/Associate Professor in Community Practice Job Summary

Clinical Track or Tenure Track faculty position in Small Animal Medicine with a focus on community outreach.

Responsibilities
  • Participate in classroom, clinical and laboratory instruction of veterinary students, graduate students, interns, and graduate veterinarians.
  • Participate in providing client services to the Veterinary Teaching Hospital (VTH), with emphasis on, but not limited to Small Animal Community Practice.
  • Provide supervision and training to students and rotating interns in physical examinations, diagnosis, treatment, general care and interpersonal communication (client, patient care team, etc.).
  • Participate in clinical and laboratory instruction and supervision and evaluation of veterinary students and interns with hands‑on instruction, case‑based rounds or small‑group didactic sessions.
  • Participate in didactic course instruction and evaluation of veterinary students.
  • Develop and teach assigned topics in curriculum courses, participate in student rounds sessions and student performance evaluations.
  • Participate in community outreach service activities including the Mobile Practice service.
  • Develop innovative teaching and service programs.
  • Develop strong professional relationships with referring veterinarians.
  • Participate in state and national outreach and continuing education.
  • Participate on college and university committees.
  • Participate in creative scholarship in small animal clinical medicine for professional development.
Preferred Qualifications
  • DVM or equivalent degree is required.
  • Successful completion of a rotating internship program or 3 years of small animal clinical experience.
Physical Demands
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment.
  • Ability to walk short distances.
  • Ability to lift and carry parcels, packages and other items.
  • Ability to view a computer terminal.
