Government Documents-Reference Librarian
As a designated selective Federal Depository Library (FDLP), Tuskegee University Library Services seeks a qualified candidate to manage and provide access to government documents while delivering high-quality reference and instructional services. The incumbent will maintain familiarity with the Government Documents and Reference collections, remain current with FDLP guidelines and communications, and respond to FDLP requirements accordingly.
Essential Job Duties include processing government documents (e.g., binding, stamping, labeling) in compliance with FDLP regulations and departmental procedures. The incumbent will select and deselect federal documents in accordance with FDLP guidelines, provide catalog access, deliver instruction on the effective use of government documents and related resources, and monitor FDLP communications for updates impacting document processing and access. Additionally, the role involves providing reference services, library instruction, and serving as a faculty liaison.
The incumbent will participate in shared decision-making within Reference Services, contribute to collection development activities, attend and participate in library, university, and professional meetings, committees, and conferences. They will organize and shelve materials using the SuDoc Classification System, conduct regular shelf-reading, maintain the orderly appearance and accessibility of the Government Documents area, supervise work-study students, conduct shift collections, review and withdraw outdated materials in accordance with library policies, assist patrons in locating and using government documents, stay current with professional developments in library science, and be available to work one evening per week and weekends on a rotating basis.
The incumbent may be required to attend training and perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications include a Master's degree in Library and Information Studies (MLIS) from an accredited institution, experience in reference services and library instruction, demonstrated supervisory ability, and experience using both traditional (print) and electronic resources.
Position does not require travel, but does require night, weekend, and after-hour work. This position is not supported using grants or contract funding and there is one vacancy available.
