English Teacher

An English teacher is responsible for delivering high-quality instruction to students in middle or high school settings. They play a pivotal role in shaping the academic, social, and personal development of secondary school students. This position involves creating and implementing engaging lesson plans, assessing student progress, and fostering a dynamic and inclusive classroom environment.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree; A master's degree may be required for certain certified teacher positions
  • Professional certificate in the area of responsibility issued by the Alabama State Department of Education prior to starting date
  • Fingerprint clearance with the Alabama State Department of Education prior to the start date

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Teach the Alabama Course of Study (ACOS) with fidelity
  • Plan, prepare, and deliver lesson plans and instructional materials that facilitate active learning
  • Develop schemes of work, lesson plans, and tests that are in accordance with established procedures
  • Instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment
  • Use relevant technology to support and differentiate instruction
  • Manage student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures
  • Maintain discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of the school
  • Provide appropriate feedback on work
  • Encourage and monitor the progress of individual students and use the information to adjust teaching strategies
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of student's progress and development
  • Update all necessary records accurately and completely as required by laws, district policies, and school regulations
  • Prepare required reports on students and activities
  • Participate in department, school, district, and parent meetings
  • Communicate information regularly to students, colleagues, and parents regarding student progress and student needs
  • Establish and communicate clear objectives for all learning activities and prepare the classroom for class activities
  • Provide a variety of learning materials and resources for use in educational activities
  • Observe and evaluate students' performance and development. Assign and grade classwork, homework, tests, and assignments
  • Other duties as assigned by the school and/or district administrators

Physical Requirements:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to sit for extended periods of time
  • The employee must also talk, hear, stand, and walk
  • The employee may be required to use their hands to finger, handle, feel, and/or reach
  • The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds
