High School Counselor
The high school counselor will provide counseling and guidance services to students in grades 9-12. The high school counselor will collaborate with faculty, parents, and administrators to ensure students know all the resources and opportunities to facilitate academic and behavioral success.

Qualifications:
- Master's degree in school counseling and demonstrated success working with elementary or secondary school students
- Professional certificate in the area of responsibility issued by the Alabama State Department of Education before start date
- Fingerprint clearance with the Alabama State Department of Education before the start date
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide guidance and counseling for academic, social, emotional, and career-related issues to all students.
- Develop and implement programs that enhance students' academic success and promote college and career readiness.
- Work in close collaboration with teachers, administrators, and other support staff to ensure the total development of the students. Review student progress and assess student needs to offer counseling or interventions as needed.
- Maintain updated cumulative student records and provide information as required for reporting and compliance purposes.
- Conduct individual and group counseling sessions with students and provide feedback to parents and teachers as needed.
- Assist the principal with building the master schedule in accordance with district and state requirements.
- Create student schedules in accordance with district and state graduation requirements.
- Develop and conduct training programs for teachers, staff, and parents on topics related to high school and college preparation.
- Assist students in developing academic and career goals and create a plan to achieve them.
- Provide students with information about college applications, scholarships, vocational training opportunities, and other post-secondary options. Assist students with the college application process.
- Maintain required documentation based on district and state requirements.
- Assist with state testing under the direction of the system coordinator.
- Develop and maintain relationships with higher education officials and employing entities to increase the likelihood that students will have access to higher education and/or employment opportunities.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Principal.

Knowledge of child development and especially of characteristics of students in the age group assigned. Knowledge of the prescribed curriculum. Knowledge of current educational research. Basic understanding and knowledge of current technology.
Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to sit for extended periods of time. The employee must also talk, hear, stand, and walk. The employee may be required to use their hands to finger, handle, feel, and/or reach. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
