Assistant Professor
- Ecology and Evolution Biology Job Summary
The Department of Biology at Tuskegee University invites applications for a full‑time, tenure‑track faculty position in Ecology and Evolution beginning Fall 2026. Areas of interest include ecological and evolutionary processes that shape life over time, marine science and conservation, and connections between ecology, evolution, human health, and well‑being. Preference will be given to candidates whose research bridges ecology, evolutionary biology and marine science, and who use modern datasets and computational approaches such as data science, probability theory, machine learning, or related methods to address fundamental questions or societal challenges.
Responsibilities- Teach assigned biology courses, including lectures and laboratories.
- Prepare, maintain, and organize laboratory materials and ensure safety and cleanliness.
- Develop syllabi, assessments, and course materials in alignment with institutional guidelines.
- Use varied teaching methods, instructional media, and technology to promote student learning and success.
- Advise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students, maintaining accessibility through office hours and electronic communication.
- Assess and communicate student progress in a timely manner.
- Contribute to curriculum development and program assessment.
- Maintain professional relationships with students, colleagues and administration.
- Participate in departmental, divisional and institutional meetings and submit required reports.
- Engage in professional development and demonstrate a commitment to instructional excellence.
- PhD in Ecology and Evolution Biology, Environmental Science, Marine Science or a closely related discipline.
- Experience integrating computational approaches (e.g. data science, machine learning, probability theory) into ecological or evolutionary research.
- Expertise in marine biology.
- Record of successful teaching experience at the college level.
- Demonstrated potential to secure external funding through grantsmanship.
- Ability to operate standard office equipment.
- Ability to walk short distances.
- Ability to lift and carry parcels, packages and other items.
- Ability to view a computer terminal.
- Ability to utilize technology and innovative pedagogy to enhance teaching and learning.
- Ability to work effectively in teams.
- Ability to operate standard office equipment.
- Ability to prepare and analyze data and figures.
- Ability to view a computer terminal and engage in extensive reading.
