Job Summary
Promotes the legacy and mission of the College and the University and participates in the tripartite mission of teaching, service, and clinical research.
- Required to participate in classroom, clinical and laboratory instruction for veterinary students and graduate students.
- Required to lead the clinical instruction programs and courses in the preclinical curriculum to prepare veterinary students for the national veterinary licensing exam.
- Works with the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs to develop clinical competencies that prepare veterinary students to pass the Veterinary Educational Assessment (VEA) Capstone exam.
- Prepares clinical hands‑on laboratories and evaluates veterinary students on their performance on the clinical competencies; meet with students regularly to review their progress; and prepare review sessions as needed.
- Coordinate the Clinical Skills courses in the preclinical curriculum.
- Work with the Director of the Simulation Laboratory to prepare clinical laboratories for all veterinary students.
- Organize small group sessions on clinical cases aligned with basic sciences courses.
- Engage with clinical faculty in the Veterinary Teaching Hospital and other veterinarians to strengthen the clinical component of the preclinical curriculum.
- Participate in clinical programs in the clinical phase of the curriculum.
- Demonstrate creative scholarship, collaborative research activities and develop innovative teaching and service programs to enhance the Department and the College.
- Is expected to attend department, college, and university meetings; participate in college and university events; and serve on department, college and university committees.
- Scholarly productivity is expected by attending and participating in seminars, workshops, and conferences that focus on clinical education for veterinary students.
- All other duties and tasks as assigned.
- DVM , or equivalent degree, and maintain professional licensure in Alabama.
- Must have at least 3 years of experience in veterinary practice.
- Clinical experience and documented competency in small animal practice.
