Position Title

Manager, Total Rewards

Job Summary

The Manager, Total Rewards is responsible for the strategic leadership, administration, and continuous improvement of Tuskegee University’s employee benefits and total rewards programs. This role is tasked with ensuring that the University’s benefits offerings are competitive, compliant, and effectively support employee well‑being and retention. The Manager will oversee the relationship and daily work of the One Digital HR Consulting staff to optimize benefits operations and service delivery.

This role serves as the primary strategic and operational lead for the University’s retirement programs administered through TIAA CREF , benefits and payroll integration via Prime Pay, the employee self‑service and enrollment experience through the Navigator Benefit Portal, and all associated compliance activities, including the annual 5500 audit and submission.

Strategic Benefits & Total Rewards Management
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive total rewards strategy that attracts, retains, and engages top talent, focusing exclusively on benefits, wellness, and retirement programs.
  • Manage the day‑to‑day operations of all benefit plans, including health and welfare plans, retirement plans, and wellness initiatives.
  • Oversee the annual open enrollment process, including strategy, communication, system testing, and employee support.
  • Partner with the HR leadership and the One Digital consulting team to ensure benefits programs are administered efficiently and in alignment with university goals.
  • Directly oversee, manage, and coordinate the work of the One Digital HR Consulting Staff, ensuring they meet service level agreements and provide high‑quality support to the University.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for all benefits‑related vendors, including TIAA CREF and Prime Pay.
Qualifications (Education, Experience and Specialized Training)
Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field is required, Masters, degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field is preferred.
Experience
  • A minimum of four (4) years of progressive experience in benefits administration, total rewards, or a related HR function is strongly preferred. Higher Education experience is strongly considered, and candidates with experience in a university or college setting will be given priority. Demonstrated experience managing retirement plans, specifically with TIM CREF , and working with integrated benefits and payroll platforms like Prime Pay is essential.
  • Proven experience with benefits administration portals, such as Navigator, and HRIS systems {experience with Ellucian Colleague is highly desirable).
Physical Demands
  • Ability to perform work primarily in a professional office environment.
  • Ability to remain in a stationary position and operate a computer for extended periods.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in person, electronically, and by telephone.
  • Ability to review detailed electronic and written information for extended periods.

Skills and Attributes
  • Deep knowledge of employee benefits regulations, including ERISA , ACA , and HIPAA , and Form 5500 filing requirements.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively present complex information to employees and leadership.
