Every member within the Tuskegee University Police Department will strive to provide excellent police services to all students, faculty, staff, visitors, and merchants of the Tuskegee University community. Officers maintain order, respond to emergencies, protect people and property, enforce motor vehicle and criminal laws, and promote good community relations. This continuous open announcement seeks officers who are committed to inclusion and community engagement.

• Patrol the university in a mobile unit or by foot patrol to prevent and/or reduce criminal activity, preserve peace, and apprehend offenders; respond to emergency and non‑emergency situations; conduct preliminary investigation of crimes; conduct searches and seizures; locate and preserve evidence and crime scenes; prepare reports; execute arrests when necessary. Also patrol to prevent property loss due to fire or flooding and render aid to accident victims (50%).
• Monitor, note, report and investigate suspicious persons and situations, safety hazards, and unusual or illegal activity in patrol areas; conduct building and vehicle checks for security purposes (20%).
• Conduct traffic crash investigations, prepare reports, photograph or diagram crime or accident scenes, interview principals and eyewitnesses; monitor traffic and enforce regulations on campus streets, issue citations, and manage traffic congestion for events (5%).
• Provide assistance to other law enforcement agencies by locating suspects, executing warrants/arrests, and recovering stolen property (5%).
• Maintain proficiency in police software and submit complete reports before end of duty (5%).
• Inspect and maintain departmental equipment in good working order (5%).
• Stay current with university policies, rules, regulations, statutes, updates, and standard operating procedures; seek professional development opportunities (5%).
• Testify in court, administrative hearings, and other criminal proceedings as required (3%).
• Perform other related duties as required (2%).

• High school diploma or GED.
• Must be 21 years of age or older.
• Must attend and complete the Alabama Police Academy Training (APOST) within 6 months to a year of appointment.
• Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.

Law enforcement duties involve intermittent performance of extremely physically demanding work, including reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, running and climbing. Officers may lift, carry and pull heavy objects and people. Exposure to heat, humidity, inclement weather, loud noises, toxic or chemical agents, electrical currents, weapons, explosives, traffic and animals is possible. Working around moving parts, vehicles, equipment, golf carts, ATVs and material handling requires heightened awareness to preserve life and property.

  • Maintain necessary certifications and driver’s license.
