Overview

The incumbent of this position is assigned to Engineering Service
- Operations Section
- Tuskegee. The incumbent is responsible for the installation, modification, repair, and maintenance of new and existing electrical lines, circuits, systems, and associated fixtures, controls, and equipment at Central Alabama HCS.

Experience:

A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality to perform the work. Evidence demonstrating knowledge, skills, and ability must be supported by detailed descriptions on your resume. Applicants will be evaluated under the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards. Screen-out element:
Qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen-out element. Applicants who meet minimum qualifications are considered for further rating; those who do not are ineligible. The remaining candidates are rated against the Job Elements:
Electric Drawings;
Technical Practices (Electrical Electronic);
Troubleshooting (Electrical);
Use and Maintain Hand Tools (Electrical Work). Experience may include paid and unpaid work, including volunteer work. Volunteer work can build competencies and provide relevant training. Credit is given for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours per week. Part-time experience is credited based on actual hours. Applicants should clearly indicate duties, responsibilities, and hours per week for such experience.

Physical requirements and working conditions are described below.

Physical requirements:

Repairs and installations are performed from ladders, scaffolding, platforms, and other hard-to-reach places. The incumbent must stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in tiring or uncomfortable positions. Frequent lifting and carrying of tools, equipment, and parts weighing up to 20 pounds, with occasional weight up to 40 pounds.

Working conditions:

Work is performed inside and outside; may occur in bad weather; in noisy, dirty, dusty, or greasy environments; on scaffolding or cranes at heights of 30 feet or more; in confined spaces such as manholes and attics. There is a risk of injury from falling, electrical shock, burns, and moving machinery; frequent exposure to cuts and bruises.

Duties
  • Major duties include:
    Install, modify, repair, maintain, troubleshoot, test, and load electrical lines, circuits, systems, and associated fixtures, controls, and equipment.
  • Work with secondary power distribution lines and circuits to supply a wide range of voltage, amperage, phase, and frequency requirements to distribution panels, switch gear, power and control circuits, industrial multiphase systems, thermocouple sensors, electrical intrusion alarm and fire alarm systems, emergency warning systems, lighting protection systems, high intensity lighting systems with associated controls, target mechanisms, AC and DC rectification systems, and amplifier circuits.
  • Plan and lay out routing, placement type, size, gauge, balance, load, continuity, and safe operation of electrical lines, circuits, systems, equipment, and controls using building plans, blueprints, wiring diagrams, engineering drawings, and maintenance/repair manuals to support industrial operations, computer complexes, or other complex electrical loads.
  • Trace hard-to-locate defects or problems related to repairs and installations.
  • Determine and place distribution panels, boxes, fittings, and connections; install wiring, couplings, conduit, relays, fixtures, transformers, and other related electrical devices including electrical service entrances.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
