Engineering Technician – Electrical / Electromechanical Prototypes

Industry: Power Electronics | High Voltage Systems | R&D

ACT is seeking a highly skilled Engineering Technician to support our Electrical Engineering and R&D teams in building, modifying, testing, and troubleshooting advanced electrical and electromechanical prototypes.

This is not a production-line role. This is hands-on, lab-based engineering support where you’ll work directly with engineers to bring new designs to life. If you thrive on electrical debugging, root cause analysis, firmware flashing, and high-voltage testing — this role is built for you.

What You’ll Do
Prototype Build & Test
  • Build, modify, and test electrical and electromechanical prototypes
  • Perform PCB soldering and rework (through-hole & surface-mount)
  • Fabricate wire harnesses, cables, and subassemblies
  • Assemble enclosures, chassis, and full prototype systems
Electrical Debug & Failure Analysis
  • Troubleshoot circuits, assemblies, and systems
  • Perform component-level rework and repair (including power components & MOSFETs)
  • Conduct failure analysis and root cause investigation
  • Support engineering validation and verification testing
  • Flash and configure firmware using approved programming tools
  • Support board bring-up and prototype validation
  • Use diagnostic interfaces and test software for troubleshooting
Lab & High-Voltage Testing (Up to 1,000V)
  • Operate oscilloscopes, DMMs, power supplies, and electronic loads
  • Support testing of high-voltage and high-power electrical systems
  • Follow strict safety protocols in lab environments
Mechanical & Fixture Support
  • Perform light machining (drilling, tapping, basic milling)
  • Build test fixtures and jigs from schematics or drawings
Documentation & Reporting
  • Interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams
  • Document builds, test results, and debug findings
  • Communicate technical issues clearly to engineering teams
  • Work independently with minimal supervision
What We’re Looking For
  • 5+ years of experience as an Electrical / Electronics / Engineering Technician
  • Strong hands-on soldering and rework skills (IPC-A-610 / J-STD-001 preferred)
  • Experience debugging power electronics and complex assemblies
  • Comfortable working with high-voltage systems (up to ~1,000V)
  • Experience supporting prototype builds in an R&D environment
  • Ability to independently analyze issues and report findings clearly
  • Familiarity with CAD viewers, ERP/PLM systems, and Microsoft Office
Nice to Have:
  • Experience with EV charging systems, power electronics, material handling equipment, or charging infrastructure
Education
  • High school diploma required
  • Technical school or associate degree preferred
  • Equivalent hands-on industry experience considered
