Overview
We are seeking a hands-on Sr. Data Architect - Tax to support finance and operations within a large, established organization. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys building solutions from the ground up, working with complex financial data, and partnering with business stakeholders to translate functional requirements into scalable technology solutions.
This is a highly autonomous role suited for someone who can architect, build, and iterate independently in an environment with evolving infrastructure and processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and maintain data pipelines, integrations, and automation solutions across tax and finance functions
- Serve as the tax representative on enterprise data warehouse and data platform initiatives, partnering with IT and architecture teams
- Build and maintain reporting infrastructure and dashboards to support compliance and leadership visibility
- Develop workflow automation and RPA solutions to streamline tax and finance processes
- Configure and support enterprise systems, including ERP platforms and tax technology tools
- Translate business requirements into scalable data and system solutions
- Lead projects end-to-end, including planning, execution, testing, deployment, and support
- Maintain documentation, internal controls, and best practices, including audit readiness
- Manage user access, system updates, and vendor relationships
- Ensure alignment with compliance and regulatory requirements (e.g., SOX controls)
- Continuously evaluate and implement process improvements and emerging technologies
- 7-10+ years of experience in data architecture, systems, or business applications within finance, tax, or related domains
- Strong experience with data warehousing, data lakes, and modern data architecture
- Hands-on experience with tools such as:
- Data platforms (e.g., Snowflake, Azure Synapse, Redshift, etc.)
- BI/reporting tools (e.g., Power BI or similar)
- Automation tools (e.g., Power Platform, RPA tools)
- Experience with ERP systems (Oracle, SAP, Workday, or similar)
- Familiarity with financial data structures (GL, cost centers, account codes, master data)
- Experience with SQL and/or scripting languages (Python preferred)
- Strong project ownership and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously and deliver in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to bridge technical and business audiences
- Experience supporting tax, compliance, or financial reporting functions
- Exposure to audit processes and internal controls (SOX or similar)
- Experience with data transformation and automation tools (e.g., Alteryx or similar)
- Advanced degree in Business, Finance, Information Systems, Accounting, or related field
- Role requires a high level of independence and self-direction with minimal oversight
- Candidates should be comfortable working in an environment where processes and infrastructure are still evolving
- Ability to operate both strategically and hands-on is critical
- Must be capable of owning deliverables end-to-end without reliance on a large team
