Responsibilities
- Respond to emergency calls, complaints, and other calls for service during watch.
- Conduct preliminary investigations of incidents aboard installations.
- Gather and analyze facts, seize and protect evidence, take statements, make diagrams, interview witnesses and other persons involved.
- Determine if facts warrant apprehension/detention or lesser actions.
- Perform law‑enforcement duties at fixed posts throughout the installation.
- Check identification cards, badges, vehicle decals and vehicles; inspect packages and personal belongings when admitting personnel into controlled areas.
- Set up and conduct checkpoints and roadblocks at various locations throughout the installation.
- Perform traffic‑law control and enforcement; direct movement of vehicles and pedestrians and observe and report traffic‑safety hazards.
- Must be a U.S. citizen and legally eligible for federal employment.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Must be able to read, write, and speak English.
- Must pass a National Agency Check and local background check.
- Must successfully complete a pre‑appointment physical examination and meet medical standards for police officers.
- Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license and a U.S. Government emergency vehicle operator’s license.
- Must undergo and pass a pre‑employment drug test (including marijuana) and be subject to random testing.
- Must be willing to work rotating shift schedules, including nights, weekends, and holidays, with potential overtime or night differential pay.
- Must successfully complete the U.S. Marine Corps Basic Police Officers Course (BPOC) and meet all certification requirements (weapons, CPR, AED, DoD, and Joint Training Regulations).
- Must be certified to carry a firearm or other weapons authorized for the jurisdiction and maintain firearm proficiency.
- Must obtain and maintain an interim and/or final SECRET security clearance prior to duty.
- Must maintain program height and weight appearance standards and wear the required uniform with proper grooming per Marine Corps orders/policies.
- Must pass a sanctioned physical agility test, medical evaluation, and periodic re‑tests; must also pass a job‑compatibility/psychological examination.
- If performing law‑enforcement operations in navigable waters, must attend the Inland Boat Operator Training Program or equivalent.
- At least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS‑07 grade level (or GS‑06 for certain duties), demonstrating: maintaining order and protecting life and property; responding to emergency calls; subduing and disarming violent individuals; conducting investigative stops; gathering and analyzing facts; seizing and protecting evidence; interviewing witnesses; conducting preliminary investigations; advising violators of rights; processing accident scenes; determining warrant of apprehension/detention;
presenting evidence in court. - At least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS‑06 grade level (or GS‑05 for certain duties), demonstrating: responding to calls for police assistance and emergency help; enforcing traffic laws and issuing citations; conducting traffic stops and vehicle searches; subduing and restraining individuals; assisting accident victims with first aid; writing incident reports.
- Participation in the direct deposit pay program.
- Employment is subject to the E‑Verify employment verification check.
- Military retirement exemption: appointment of retired military members within 180 days of retirement is subject to 5 U.S.C. § 3326.
- Males born after 12‑31‑59 must register for Selective Service.
- Position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment and requires signing DD‑Form 2760.
- Must maintain a DD‑Form 2760 qualification to possess firearms or ammunition.
- Position is mission essential; the incumbent must ensure continuity of operations and complete essential tasks as directed by command.
- May be required to respond to off‑base circumstances as directed by the installation commander.
- Relocation expenses may be authorized as permitted by regulations.
