Reporting to the Senior Student Success Advisor, Student Success Advisors (SSAs) deliver dependable and proactive support, guidance, and referrals to their designated advisees. SSAs work collaboratively with college faculty, staff, external agencies, and other college and universities to ensure comprehensive student support. This approach enables students to benefit from proactive advising, personalized academic planning, and holistic personal development. SSAs are committed to empowering all students, particularly those deemed at-risk, through purposeful and meaningful interactions that prioritize student-centered learning and success.
Additionally, advisors manage student cases diligently, maintaining strict adherence to relevant laws, policies, and regulations.
- Student Success Advisors establish personalized and supportive relationships with students, offering avenues for them to remain engaged with our college community.
- Deliver high-quality academic advising to students, covering course selection, program requirements, and academic policies, with a particular focus on addressing the needs of all students, especially those in distance learning programs.
- Support students in crafting educational plans and establishing academic objectives. As Student Success Advisors, advocate for students by identifying and addressing obstacles that hinder their academic advancement.
- Track student progress and step in as needed to ensure their success, including serving as the first reviewer for transfer credits, graduation, and completion information.
- Conduct regular check-ins with students to discuss academic performance and address any concerns or challenges.
- Collaborate with faculty and staff to develop and implement academic programs and initiatives.
- Promote student attendance at orientation sessions and workshops designed for new students, aiming to acquaint them with available academic resources and support services.
- Assist in coordinating academic events like career fairs, seminars on academic success, and clinics for advising and registration.
- Participate in college retention initiatives by implementing student success strategies tailored to specific target populations (caseloads). Monitor withdrawals, academic early alerts, and students on academic probation as part of these efforts.
- Ensure the accuracy of records and utilize BI Reports to track student academic progress, advising sessions, and communications effectively.
- Prepare and update academic plans, degree audits, and graduation plans for students.
- Generate reports and statistics related to student advising and program outcomes for assessment purposes.
- Engage in outreach efforts. Communicate effectively with current and prospective students, community members and college employees, in person, phone, zoom, TEAMS, in writing and by appropriate electronic means, adhering to privacy of student’s requirements (FERPA).
- Reach out to at-risk students to provide additional support and resources for academic success.
- The Student Success Advisor designs and executes programs for student success and retention, acts as a referral point to resources for students facing academic challenges, collaborates with counseling services, disability support offices, and other campus resources to meet student needs. Additionally, they help students access tutoring services, academic accommodations, and various support programs.
- Participate in ongoing professional development activities to stay informed about current trends and best practices in academic advising.
- Attend workshops, conferences, and training sessions related to student success, retention, and advising techniques.
- Create and present informative sessions to encourage students to explore academic and career opportunities in additional CSI degree programs and Baccalaureate programs.
