Behavioral Support Specialist
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to support students with behavioral challenges at Robert Stuart Middle School. The ideal candidate will work closely with teachers and special education staff to create a positive and inclusive learning environment. This part-time position is essential in helping students develop social skills, manage their behaviors, and achieve academic success.
Responsibilities:
- Assist teachers in implementing individualized behavior intervention plans for students.
- Provide direct support to students in the classroom and during transitions to ensure appropriate behavior.
- Monitor student progress and document behavioral incidents, providing feedback to teachers and support staff.
- Collaborate with teachers and other para educators to develop strategies that promote positive behavior and engagement.
- Facilitate small group activities that encourage social skills development and teamwork.
- Assist in the supervision of students during lunch, recess, and other non-classroom settings.
- Participate in training and professional development sessions to enhance skills in behavior management and intervention techniques.
- Maintain a safe and supportive environment for all students, addressing any behavioral issues promptly and effectively.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent; some college coursework in education, psychology, or a related field is preferred.
- Requires two years of college, an AA degree, or successful completion of the Para Pro Assessment (Praxis Exam).
- Experience working with children or adolescents, particularly those with behavioral challenges, is highly desirable.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with teachers, students, and parents.
- Knowledge of behavior management techniques and strategies.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine interest in helping students succeed.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive situations with discretion.
- Willingness to undergo background checks and comply with school district policies and procedures.
