Literacy Paraprofessional
I.B. Perrine Elementary School is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Literacy Paraprofessional to join our team. This part-time position is designed for individuals passionate about fostering a love of reading and writing in young learners. The Literacy Paraprofessional will support classroom teachers in delivering effective literacy instruction, provide individualized support to students, and help create a positive and engaging learning environment.
Responsibilities:
- Assist classroom teachers in implementing literacy curriculum and instructional strategies.
- Provide one-on-one and small group support to students struggling with reading and writing.
- Monitor and assess student progress, documenting improvements and areas needing additional focus.
- Create and maintain a welcoming and organized learning space that promotes literacy development.
- Collaborate with teachers to develop and adapt instructional materials and resources.
- Facilitate literacy-focused activities and programs, including reading groups, writing workshops, and book clubs.
- Communicate regularly with teachers and support staff regarding student progress and needs.
- Assist with administrative tasks related to literacy instruction, including record-keeping and data entry.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent; associate's degree or be able to pass the Para Pro Praxis and successful completion of a federal background check and pre-employment drug free workplace screen.
Preferred:
- Experience working with elementary-aged children, preferably in an educational setting.
- Strong understanding of literacy development and effective instructional strategies.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for helping students succeed in literacy.
- Ability to adapt to diverse learning styles and needs of students.
All recommendations for hire are tentative offers. Employment is contingent upon board approval and successful completion of federal background check and drug-free workplace pre-employment screening. This is an "at will" position in that the employer or employee may terminate employment at any time for any reason consistent with applicable state or federal law.
