Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate SPED Professional to join our team at South Hills Middle School. This position is designed for individuals who are passionate about supporting students with special needs and providing them with the resources and guidance they need to thrive academically and socially. The ideal candidate will work collaboratively with educators, parents, and support staff to create an inclusive learning environment that fosters growth and development for all students.
Responsibilities- Assist in the implementation of Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) for students with special needs.
- Provide one-on-one or small group support to students in various subjects, ensuring they understand the material and can complete assignments.
- Collaborate with teachers and other staff members to adapt and modify curriculum and instructional materials to meet the needs of students.
- Monitor and document student progress, behavior, and participation, providing feedback to teachers and parents as necessary.
- Support students during classroom activities, transitions, and social interactions to promote positive behavior and peer relationships.
- Participate in team meetings, professional development, and training sessions to stay informed on best practices in special education.
- Assist with the organization and implementation of classroom activities and events that promote inclusion and engagement.
- Maintain a safe and supportive learning environment for all students.
- Uphold school policies and procedures while advocating for the needs of students with disabilities.
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional education or certification in special education or related field preferred.
- Previous experience working with students with special needs in an educational setting is highly desirable.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, parents, and staff.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine desire to help students succeed.
- Ability to adapt instructional strategies to meet diverse learning needs.
- Familiarity with IEP processes and special education laws and regulations is a plus.
- Basic computer skills and proficiency in using educational technology.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
- A commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment for all students.
This is an "at will" position in that the employer or employee may terminate employment at any time for any reason consistent with applicable state or federal law. The employment "at will" policy cannot be changed verbally or in writing, unless the change is specifically authorized in writing and approved by the Board of Trustees of District 411.
All recommendations for hire are tentative offers. Employment is contingent upon board approval, and successful completion of a federal background check and drug-free workplace pre-employment screening.
