Job SummaryUnder the direction of the school principal, the teacher creates a positive learning environment where students develop critical thinking, problem‑solving, and lifelong learning skills. The role includes safe classroom management, differentiated instruction, use of research‑based methods, and implementation of proficiency‑based grading.
Essential Responsibilities- Teach core content areas as outlined in the USBE Core Curriculum and adopted by the Board of Education.
- Develop and implement lesson plans and instructional materials, providing individualized and small‑group instruction to meet students’ needs.
- Translate lesson plans into productive learning experiences, maximizing instructional time.
- Utilize computers and technology to support instruction.
- Supervise students indoors and outdoors, including recess and gymnasium activities, in all weather conditions.
- Maintain classroom behavior standards through organization and appropriate discipline strategies.
- Evaluate students’ academic and social growth, keep records, and prepare progress reports.
- Implement proficiency‑based learning and the Granite Way.
- Communicate with parents via conferences, phone calls, e‑mail, student planners, and the school website.
- Collaborate with other professional staff on each student’s academic and personal development.
- Ensure attendance, presence, and timeliness.
- Create and maintain functional classroom displays and interest centers.
- Provide a safe and supportive learning environment on campus.
- Maintain professional competence through in‑service and self‑selected growth activities.
- Participate in faculty meetings, evaluation procedures, and district guidelines.
- Administer student attendance policies and procedures.
- Take part in standardized testing and faculty committees.
- Select and requisition instructional materials and maintain inventory records.
- Model professional and ethical standards in interactions with students, parents, colleagues, and community members.
- Adhere to laws, district policies, and procedures.
- Build effective working relationships with all stakeholders.
- Demonstrate professional ethics as outlined by the Utah Professional Practices Advisory Commission.
- Serve as a positive role model.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Current Professional Elementary Childhood Education license, Professional Utah Elementary license, or an out‑of‑state professional elementary/ECE license.
- Ability to meet or be willing to meet the Utah Science of Reading Requirement (S.B. 241) using one of the following mechanisms: first Utah teaching license issued 2024 or later;
Utah Reading Endorsement granted 2022 or later; successful completion of the UFOR assessment; documentation of Keys to Early Reading training; certificates of completion for LETRS Units 1‑8; or willingness to complete the required training during the first year. - English as a second language endorsement preferred.
- Graduated from a teacher preparation program or, if a new graduate, submit a conferral letter on official university letterhead detailing degree earned, anticipated graduation date, and recommended licensing information.
- Completed a Utah State Board of Education cleared criminal background check.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
- Valid Professional Educator License for the State of Utah in the relevant licensure area and any applicable endorsement.
- UTBEO approved criminal background check.
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
- Valid Utah professional educator license with applicable concentration and endorsement.
- Experience with indoor and outdoor student supervision in varied conditions.
- Capability to work at a keyboard or workstation for extended periods.
- Regular speaking, hearing, standing, walking, reaching, stooping, kneeling, and crouching.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds routinely and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.
- Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and depth perception.
- Those working in P.E., CTE, Theatre, or Art may need to lift up to 50 pounds more frequently.
