Special Education Paraprofessional
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to support the educational development of students with special needs at Sawtooth Elementary. The Special Education Paraprofessional will work closely with teachers and staff to create a positive and inclusive learning environment that fosters the academic, social, and emotional growth of students with diverse learning needs. This full-time position requires a commitment to enhancing the educational experience of all students while providing individualized support.
Responsibilities:
- Assist classroom teachers in implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with disabilities.
- Provide one-on-one or small group support to students during classroom activities, ensuring they understand and engage with the curriculum.
- Monitor and document students' progress, behaviors, and needs, providing feedback to teachers and other staff members.
- Support students with daily living skills and personal care as needed, promoting independence and self-advocacy.
- Collaborate with special education staff and general education teachers to adapt instructional materials and strategies for diverse learners.
- Facilitate communication between students, teachers, and parents to ensure a cohesive support system.
- Assist in the implementation of behavioral intervention plans and strategies to promote positive behavior and social skills.
- Participate in training and professional development opportunities to enhance skills and knowledge related to special education.
- Maintain a safe and organized classroom environment conducive to learning.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervising teacher or school administration.
- High school diploma or equivalent; requires an AA degree or successfully completed the Idaho Paraprofessional Exam.
- Experience working with children, particularly those with special needs, in an educational setting is highly desirable.
- Knowledge of special education practices, IEPs, and behavioral management strategies.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with students, teachers, and parents.
- Ability to work patiently and empathetically with students who may exhibit challenging behaviors.
- Proficiency in basic computer skills and familiarity with educational technology.
- Ability to lift and assist students as needed and adapt to various physical demands of the job.
- Commitment to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment for all students.
- Background check and clearances required prior to employment.
