Elementary School Support Staff

Morningside Elementary School is seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to provide essential support to elementary students. This full-time position involves working closely with students, teachers, and parents to create a positive and inclusive learning environment. The ideal candidate will be committed to fostering student growth and development, ensuring that all students receive the support they need to succeed academically and socially.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist teachers in implementing instructional plans and adapting materials to meet the diverse needs of students.
  • Provide one-on-one or small group support to students requiring additional assistance in academic or behavior.
  • Monitor student progress and behavior, providing feedback to teachers and administration as needed.
  • Facilitate a safe and nurturing school environment that encourages student engagement and participation.
  • Support the social and emotional well-being of students by promoting positive behavior and conflict resolution strategies.
  • Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and training sessions to enhance skills and knowledge.
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and interventions, and assist in the evaluation of student performance.
  • Assist administration with various jobs including the organization and supervision of school activities, recess, events, and field trips.

Requirements:

  • 2 years of college, an AA degree, or successfully completed the Para Pro Assessment (Praxis Exam).
  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Psychology, Social Work, or a related field preferred but not required.
  • Previous experience working with elementary-aged children in an educational or support role.
  • Strong understanding of child development and effective teaching strategies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, parents, and staff.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting student learning and development.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Proficient in using technology and educational software to support student learning.
  • Knowledge of special education laws and practices is a plus.
  • CPR and First Aid certification preferred or willingness to obtain.
  • Background check clearance as required by school district policies.

This is an "at will" position in that the employer or employee may terminate employment at any time for any reason consistent with applicable state or federal law. The employment "at will" policy cannot be changed verbally or in writing, unless the change is specifically authorized in writing and approved by the Board of Trustees of District 411. Starting Salary Range: $16.56+ per hour depending on experience Employment is contingent upon board approval and successful completion of federal background check and drug-free workplace pre-employment screening.
