Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Manager - Food Production
Overview:
The EHS Manager is a key leadership role within a food manufacturing environment, responsible for developing and overseeing safety and environmental programs that ensure regulatory compliance and promote a culture of safety and accountability. This role supports continuous improvement efforts, supervises safety personnel, and collaborates with operations, engineering, and quality teams to maintain a safe and compliant workplace.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Lead the implementation and continuous improvement of safety and environmental programs in a food production facility.
- Conduct regular risk assessments, audits, and inspections to identify hazards and ensure corrective actions are taken.
- Investigate workplace incidents and near-misses, perform root cause analyses, and implement preventive measures.
- Develop and deliver safety training programs tailored to food manufacturing operations and regulatory updates.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, FDA, and other applicable regulations relevant to food processing environments.
- Maintain accurate documentation of safety incidents, training records, and environmental compliance reports.
- Collaborate with production and engineering teams to identify and mitigate risks related to equipment, processes, and facility layout.
- Oversee environmental systems such as wastewater pretreatment and ensure minimal violations and optimal performance.
- Provide emergency response support and maintain readiness for safety and environmental incidents.
- Support workers' compensation case management and return-to-work programs.
- Foster employee engagement in safety initiatives through communication, campaigns, and training.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Occupational Health, Food Science, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
- 7-10 years of EHS experience in a food manufacturing or processing environment.
- Preferred certifications: CSP, ASP, CIH, or CEM.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA, NFPA, and environmental regulations, with an understanding of food industry-specific compliance requirements.
- Experience conducting audits, managing compliance programs, and leading safety initiatives in a fast-paced production setting.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and work collaboratively across departments.
