Forging Cell Operator — Billet Handling & Trim Press

Your mission

Transform hot billets into precision components by running a high-performing forging cell. You’ll own die changes, press settings, furnace control, and inspection—while improving processes and elevating safety and quality standards.

Core responsibilities

Set up/operate the forge press: install top/bottom dies, back plates, and shims to the setup sheet.

Adjust ram as needed to meet print and process capability.

Retrieve dies from the pre-heat bench; stage and verify tooling readiness.

Use tongs to place hot billets into dies; visually check billet color/heat and align accurately.

Run the trim press (including a 130 mechanical forge trim press) and operate rotary/slot furnaces.

Inspect forged parts to print using calipers, micrometers, and gauges; capture data via PC.Perform preventive maintenance on presses/furnaces; sustain 5S and apply Lean/CI tools.

Operate a forklift; comply with department and company safety procedures.

Support additional tasks as assigned by the Supervisor.

Skills & capabilities

Forging press setup/operation; trim press setup/operation; die benching.

Reading blueprints at a basic level; using forge setup sheets; data entry/retrieval on a PC.Hand tool proficiency (air grinders, etc.).Rotary and slot furnace startup/operation; awareness of furnace PM.Measurement with micrometers and calipers; foundational shop math.

Knowledge of forge safety rules/requirements; ISO quality and Lean Standard Work.

Team collaboration and communication; forklift operator certification.

Working conditions

Hot, dynamic shop environment: billet temps near 2300°F; summer ambient temps can exceed 90°F.Extended standing/walking (10+ hours); lifting/moving 50+ lbs.

Exposure to electrical/pneumatic hand tools; frequent handling of extremely hot billets with tools.

Forklift operation certification required.

Background we value

High School Diploma/GED preferred (not required).~2 years trade school preferred (not required).Manufacturing experience (around 2 years preferred); forging background not required.

Preferred: 3+ years setting up/operating forging presses.
