Quality Engineer I
This position reports to the Quality Manager and is located at our gear manufacturing facility (Rexnord Aerospace, Precision Gear) in Twinsburg, OH. The Quality Engineer I will be a high impact member in the Quality Department, working with a dedicated team to lead the organization in reduction of non-conformances, improving yield and reducing total cost of quality through scrap reduction and process capability studies.
This position will implement projects and improvements that seek to identify, control, and resolve non-conformances at the source with a focus on continuous improvement and cost reduction. The ideal candidate will be highly collaborative, partnering with multi-discipline teams leveraging Lean methodologies to establish and drive quality goals and objectives throughout the manufacturing process. The ability to effectively engage in a dynamic environment and leverage lessons learned is critical.
Excellent interpersonal skills are a must to build effective working relationships across production, engineering, purchasing and customer service. This position requires experience with using Excel to analyze data, applying Lean tools such as DMAIC and Pareto.
Demonstrate collaborative partnerships with peers, leaders, and stakeholders.
Implement metrics and dashboards to provide ongoing visibility to quality goals and objectives.
Works effectively both independently and in a team environment to deliver solutions in a fast-paced environment.
Work with product development teams to create standard processes and methods to develop embedded software with high levels of quality.
Lead Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) to ensure corrective and preventive actions address systemic root causes and eliminates repeats.
Apply structured analytical and problem-solving techniques to resolve complex issues and drive performance results.
Utilize data driven problem-solving methods to improve key quality metrics such as internal and external PPM, Scrap and Customer Satisfaction.
Work directly with department supervisors and manufacturing engineers to drive continuous improvement.
Assist in the effort to maintain current ISO
9001 and AS9100 certifications.
Assist quality in collection, compiling, and analyzing data in Excel to determine both root cause and corrective action to prevent recurrence.
Establish and lead the non-conformance review board.
Drive a culture of quality at the source whereby all associates assume ownership for the quality of their work, services, and products.
Assist in Identifying & driving continuous improvement opportunities & participate in kaizen events.
Assist in overseeing appropriate quality acceptance criteria for new equipment, process, and product introductions.
Bachelor's degree in related Engineering field required and 5 years of quality related experience.
Ability to quickly learn quality systems, e.g. AS9100, ISO
9001.
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel & PowerPoint.
Experience in root cause analysis and formal problem-solving techniques.
Proficiency in reading engineering drawings & geometric tolerancing (GD&T).
Ability to quickly learn the Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) and Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) tools (including SPC, GR&R, FMEA, Control Plans, Cpk, DMAIC, First Article Inspection and Cost of Quality).
Experience with Minitab to determine CPK & PPK desired.
Demonstrated proficiency in time and project management.
Strong customer service orientation.
Experience working in a lean manufacturing or continuous improvement environment.
Background in metal manufacturing environment including metal cutting and grinding is preferred.
Demonstrated career advancement with increasing accountability.
ASQ Certified Quality Engineering (CQE) desired.
