Sales Representative, Outside Sales, Business Development
Position Summary
Sells products for MATHESON to business and industrial establishments or individuals at sales office, store, showroom or customer's place of business by performing the following duties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Compile lists of prospective customers for use as sales leads, based on information from newspapers, business directories, industry ads, trade shows, Internet websites, and other sources.
- Travel throughout assigned territory to call on regular and prospective customers to solicit orders, or talk with customers on the sales floor or by phone.
- Display or demonstrate product, using samples or catalog, and emphasize salable features.
- Quote prices and credit terms and prepare sales contracts for orders obtained.
- Estimate date of delivery to customer, based on knowledge of own firm's production and delivery schedules.
- Prepare reports of business transactions and keep expense accounts.
- Work with inside sales and route sales representatives to keep account activities and literature up to date.
- Coordinate customer training.
- Enter new customer data and other sales data for current customers into computer database.
- Develop and maintain relationships with purchasing contacts.
- Investigate and resolve customer problems with welding processes, equipment and deliveries.
- Attend trade shows.
- Perform inside sales when needed.
- Assist with semi-annual inventories.
- Assist co-workers and customers with technical welding questions.
- Assist in collecting outstanding account balances.
- Perform other projects and duties as assigned.
$80 k – $85 k plus commission, DOE.
Hours of WorkTypical hours for this position match the requirements of the customer base Monday through Friday. This is a full‑time position.

Language Skills- Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedural manuals.
- Write routine reports and correspondence.
- Speak effectively before groups of customers, clients, vendors, managers, or employees of the organization.
- Calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, and volume.
- Apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
- Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Hazardous materials training and certification.
- Associate’s degree in welding technology or related field from a two‑year college or technical school.
- Six months to one year of related experience and/or training.
- Equivalent combination of education and experience.
