Description
This is a seasonal, non-union position. The starting pay for this position is $18.00/hour, plus a certification bonus up to $1.75/hour for applicable certifications. This position works 40 hours per week, including days, evenings, weekends and holidays.
Position SummaryMaintains safe swimming conditions in the pool, deck, and surrounding areas. Creates a safe and positive atmosphere that promotes participant safety and engagement in accordance with City policies and procedures. Takes life‑saving action when needed.
Job Responsibilities- Trains, schedules, and monitors performance of Water Park Lifeguards.
- Supervises lifeguards and aquatic staff.
- Maintains records and reports related to aquatic facilities and reports concerns to management.
- Assists with in‑service training and updates.
- Coordinates all staff in emergency situations ensuring facility Emergency Action Plan (EAP) is followed.
- Addresses patron or facility concerns in absence of Seasonal Aquatics Manager that escape beyond lifeguard intervention.
- Acts as facility representative during Red Cross Aquatic Examiner visits in absence of Group Activities Coordinator or Seasonal Aquatics Manager.
- Informs supervisory staff of concerns related to aquatics staff and facilities.
- Conducts limited maintenance on filter, heating and chemical operations at the outdoor Water Park.
- Supervises swimmers both in the pool and on deck and maintains proper conduct of guests in all areas.
- Takes lifesaving action(s) as needed.
- Maintains a safe pool environment including keeping the pool, deck and surrounding areas clean and free of hazard.
- Interacts with users to encourage maximum proper use of all facilities.
- Light cleaning duties and facility maintenance.
- Work alongside other Water Park staff to provide a safe and fun environment for all Water Park members and guests.
- Helps to ensure policies and procedures are followed by Lifeguards.
- May be required to carry a radio on shift to communicate directly with on‑duty managers.
- Enforces all Water Park rules and policies.
- Lifeguards the pool as necessary.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Must be at least 19 years of age.
- Must have flexible availability to include evenings, weekends and holidays, the Water Park is a seven day a week operation.
- Strong communication, leadership and organizational skills required.
- Must be able to swim.
- Previous Lifeguarding experience required.
- Valid American Red Cross Lifeguard (LG), Lifeguard Manager (LGM) and CPO certifications (CPO can be obtained through our Aquatics Department upon hire. Water Safety Instructor (WSI) desirable.
- Current CPR/AED/First Aid certified.
- Must have distance vision, depth perception.
- Must have sufficient hearing ability with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to discern verbal instructions and emergency signals and to communicate with other employees and the general public.
- Regular, punctual in‑person attendance.
- Ability to interact with and be courteous to fellow employees and participants of diverse backgrounds.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, walk, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and smell. The employee will frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions and is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions.
The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and in high places and is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
