SUMMARY
This is a part-time, non-union position. An employee in this position transports elderly individuals (65 and better) to and from various destinations, such as medical appointments, grocery stores, bank, physical therapy, special events, trips, etc.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES- Using a City vehicle, drives qualifying senior residents to various appointments and events, etc.;
- Ensures the safety and comfort of all passengers;
- Assists individuals with safely entering and exiting the vehicle as needed;
- Observes all state and local regulations concerning the operation of motorized vehicles;
- Ensures vehicle performance by daily checks of gasoline, steering linkage, clarity of exterior signs, and functioning of all accessories;
- Maintains a clean and well-maintained vehicle by performing daily exterior and interior checks of the vehicle;
- Reports all vehicle mechanical difficulties immediately to the department office;
- Ensures the proper conduct of persons on the van and reports flagrant and repeated misbehavior;
- Reports all accidents to proper civil authorities and Parks and Recreation supervisors immediately;
- Attends meetings as assigned by the Parks and Recreation supervisors;
- Requires good customer service skills;
- Complies with all City and Departmental policies in reference to vehicle care and operation, interactions with the community and cell phone usage;
- Transports will include and are not limited to daytime, evenings, weekends, special events.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

- High School diploma or general education degree (GED).
- Must possess and maintain a valid State of Ohio driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
- Ability to read, and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instruction, general business periodicals, professional journals and technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
- Ability to communicate effectively and clearly.
- Must possess good interpersonal skills for interacting with passengers and coordinating schedules.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
- Ability to recognize potentially unsafe conditions and behaviors and correct them in a positive and appropriate manner.
- Must be able to operate a multi-line telephone, and have basic Microsoft skills.
- Must be eligible to work in the United States.

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly exposed to wet, cold, hot, and/or humid conditions. The employee may work near moving mechanical parts and in outside weather conditions.
Majority of the work environment will consist of normal, local driving conditions in all seasons and weather conditions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, talk, sit, walk, reach with hands and arms; must have good (or correctable) vision and range of motion needed for safe driving; must speak and hear sufficiently for safe motor vehicle operations.
The employee is occasionally required to step up, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and taste and smell. The employee will occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally assist with moving individuals or items weighing up to 150 pounds.
The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
