Position Overview
The concrete mixer truck driver safely operates a vehicle designed to manufacture, deliver and unload ready‑mixed concrete to customer satisfaction. The driver receives direction and work assignments from the dispatcher or plant manager, making deliveries to job sites with difficult and congested unloading points. Work hours vary daily according to customer demand. Other duties may include maintenance of truck and plant cleanliness.
Key Responsibilities- Works safely and efficiently.
- Maintain a clean and orderly work area and vehicle.
- Comply with all OSHA and USDOT/FMCSA safe‑operating practices.
- Use required PPE as directed.
- Operate ready‑mix concrete truck to deliver to construction sites safely and efficiently, obeying laws and dispatch instructions.
- Maintain communication with dispatcher or plant manager regarding deliveries and check delivery tickets for special instructions.
- Climb 8‑foot ladder to ensure proper loading and obtain required signatures; handle 50‑pound mixers safely; add admixtures to drum when necessary.
- Maintain cleanliness of the truck, rinsing drums before and after deliveries.
- Collect money from customers and record transactions on receipt.
- Read receipts, record details, and write information from customers regarding tickets.
- Respond to customer questions related to basic product knowledge and basic concrete instructions.
- Perform pre‑trip and post‑trip inspections of the vehicle and report maintenance or repair issues.
- Utilize tablet and computer skills; follow GPS or map books.
- Perform other duties as necessary, including truck or plant maintenance, sweeping, shoveling or other yard work while maintaining a safe environment.
- Display a professional and courteous attitude to co‑workers, supervisors, and the public.
- Willing to work nights and weekends as required.
- Work safely and efficiently without supervision.
- Strict adherence to company policies and procedures.
- Work in a team environment and assist coworkers or supervisors as needed.
- Work independently when required.
- Maintain timely and regular attendance.
Required PPE includes gloves, hard hat, reflective vest, safety (hard‑toe) shoes, and seatbelt.
Qualifications- Valid minimum Class B CDL.
- Ability to perform essential duties, including manual handling up to 50 lb.
High school diploma preferred or equivalent; minimum of 1 year of related experience or training.
Language SkillsAbility to read and interpret safety documents, operating instructions, and procedure manuals; write routine reports and correspondence; present information in one‑on‑one and small group settings to customers and coworkers.
Mathematical SkillsAbility to add and subtract two‑digit numbers and perform multiplication and division with tens and hundreds, using units of US money, weight, volume, and distance.
Reasoning AbilityApply common sense to carry out simple one‑ or two‑step instructions; handle standardized situations with minimal variability.
StressHandle stressful situations, meet scheduled customer demands, and manage customer complaints during deliveries.
Driver License & Medical CardMaintain a valid DOT medical card and a state‑issued commercial driver license.
Physical Requirements- Must sit, use hands, and frequently lift or move up to 50 lb.
- Must stand, walk, reach, climb, bend, kneel, squat, drive, and perform repetitive fine‑motor tasks.
- Must have good vision and ability to adjust focus.
Work is performed outdoors, exposing the employee to wet and/or humid conditions, extreme heat and cold, fumes, airborne particles, vibration, and moderate noise. Conditions include hot weather, cold weather, wet weather, exposure to noise, exposure to high heat, moving equipment, and working with others.
