Love the beach? The Tybee Island Marine Science Center is seeking enthusiastic, energetic applicants for seasonal marine science educator positions. Educational experience and knowledge of local coastal wildlife preferred as well as those working towards or holding a degree in marine biology, environmental science, education, or a related field.

In addition to programming, educators participate in conservation activities, gallery education, tank cleaning, and other duties as needed. Applicants should be comfortable with stairs, spending time outside, and prepared to go waist-deep into the ocean.

$15/hr

Educational Programming

The main duty of our educators is delivering marine science-based educational programs for students, scouts, island visitors, and sea campers. Please visit our website for more information. Other Duties

Educators participate in conservation activities, gallery education, cleaning, and other duties, as needed.

Scheduling/Shifts

- Part time educators work between 20-30 hours a week (3-4 days), as needed. Days off could change every week, and sometimes they won't be adjacent. Since we offer programs seven days a week, educators do have to work weekends too. Shifts last four to eight hours.

Physical Activity

Educators will need to be comfortable walking up and down a flight of stairs multiple times a day. Also, they should be comfortable spending many hours outside without shade in the intense heat or cold. Educators must always be prepared to go waist-deep in the ocean for the seining program.

Personal Car Use

Educators sometimes use their personal car during work to teach off-site programs, retrieve injured animals, etc. Educators are compensated for mileage out of their way from the route to and from work. Background checks will be performed on all employees.
